^I'm nervous, tbh.

They will definitely accommodate Amber over Chris when it comes to the key. They did that for Lea and Darren several times, and also even for Amber in Kurtcedes' first duet '4 Minutes', when they adjusted the key higher so Amber (who sang the Justin Timberlake parts) didn't have to sing too low (and consequently Chris, who sang the Madonna parts, had to sing a lot higher than Madonna!).

I think they think that because Chris has a killer range he can sing in all keys.
And so far he has not let them down, but sometimes the results would have been better if he had sung in a more suiting key (like 'Bring Him Home' imo). Plus it would be nice if they would set the key primarily for him for a change, and let the others try to work around that.   

If 'I am Changing' will be primarily in Amber's key Chris will either have to sing mostly falsetto, or all low register one octave lower than Amber. And tbh: I don't know if they will sound good together either way.

This is different from when Chris is singing with Lea, as her (Lea's) voice is softer and more the same as Chris's when he sings (in high register) with her, and they blend together well. Duetting with Amber they need to rely more on the contrast between the 2 voices than them blending together, because their voices are so different.

If option 1:
Chris sings in high register on the same height/notes as Amber she will overpower him easily, and he just can't put that sort of R&B soul in his voice like her.
Having Chris sing like he did in 'I Have Nothing' or 'It's All Over' (in falsetto) alongside miss soul voice herself Amber Riley..... it's not a competition of course, and I even think that most Kurtsies will like it, but I fear for what the rest of the fandom will say. The reaction to 'I Have Nothing' was not so positive.   

But option 2:
if Chris sings one octave lower than Amber they will be too much apart in timbre and voice, and I'm not sure about that either. Chris would have to sing really low for his range, and they might lose the connection between their 2 voices when Amber sings so high up.
Plus Chris singing so low might not work with the overall 'sound/feeling' of the song.


I can't really predict this one, or picture it in my head, tbh. 

We'll have to wait and see. Maybe they'll go for option 3:
Turn it into a duet with harmonies, so Chris can sing a few notes lower than Amber on most parts, and/or maybe they'll give him only the lower melodies as solos while Amber does her usual wailing.
But making it a harmony duet would mean more work, more re-arranging the music, and with all the songs in the 2 (  ) 100th episodes I doubt they could afford the time for that.

Personally I'm not too happy with them picking this particular song for the 2nd Kurtcedes duet, as I can see no other option than accommodating the key to only 1 of the singers, and it ain't gonna be Chris.  

They should have let Chris and Lea sing 'Ebony and Ivory' for the Stevie Wonder tribute: best opportunity they ever had for a Kurtcedes duet, imo.

You know, I have to ask, does anyone else find the combination of people for the Gwenyth/retro number a bit odd?  Rachel, Kurt, Quinn, Puck, Mike, Schue, and Blaine?

Only one of these characters doesn't fit, namely Blaine. He's the only one of the kids who has not graduated yet. Shue is probably there because he's connected to Holly.

But who knows: could simply be them all hanging out together for old times sake, and Kurt of course has to take his fiance Blaine in tow 'cause God forbid Blaine does not get enough screentime and exposure with a guest star.  

I don't find Blaine's presense there so strange, they are friends with him since season 2, they were in the same Glee club together and yes he is also Kurt's bf. It makes more sense than Quinn's Yale degenerate coming with her to Lima, Ohio and hanging out at McKinley. 
Will and Holly's presense there is weirder to me. Why would the kids go to a disco party with their former Glee club teacher and his ex-girlfriend, who they have only met twice 3 years ago?

Thanks Glorfindel, with your expertise you've articulated some of my "gut" reactions to hearing this song slated for Kurtcedes.

NGL first thought was "what a wonderful solo for Amber" until I realized it was a duet with
Chris.      

"Get Back" was the only duet that Chris has had on the show that IMO was done to accommodate more him, and really it was more a solo than a duet with Lea.

I think that is why Kurt fans want him to get solos, not only  because they want him to get spotlight (as a Kurtsie I do want him to get plenty of that) but because in Chris's case, he usually gets the short end of the stick in duets under the pretense that he nominally has a wider range.  IMO  that doesn't mean those duets are done to highlight his strengths , with both Darren and Lea it seems it's more about them, ie accommodating in a key for them.

Alas while the options for the song are limited, I also think there is a good possibility it will in essence be a Mercedes solo with minimal background vocals by Chris.

That is why I grind my teeth when posters in different forums say that solos are "overrated", that duets, trios, etc. are just as good.

Same as a Kartie duet, a Puckurt duet, a Kurt/Tina duet, a Kuinn duet.....
It's ridiculous that they hardly mixed the kids up song/duetwise on the show when they had the chance. It was (and still is) mostly about the ships, blegh.

Yet another picture being released from this scene without Chris makes me believe that they're really keeping Kurt's outfit a secret. Can't wait to see it if that's the case. Or maybe he's wearing that outfit with the red shirt that some of you thought was ugly.

And Jenna had 5 seasons as a regular on Glee, instead of the 3 (plus a fake 4th season for PR reasons) some of the other originals got, so I won't be that upset if/when she's gone.

Yes! Thank God, that's a relief. Hopefully it will be more of option 3 I suggested then: Chris singing the lower parts and a lower harmony to Amber.
And the crew seems to like the duet, so that's good too.

They're pimping him, using him for PR as usual. And that includes the teasing but not showing of his disco outfit.

On the one hand I like how much they 'value' his power to draw in the audience and to create buzz and anticipation for upcoming episodes, but otoh I find the hypocrisy of using Chris/Kurt for PR but not giving him much to do on the show infuriating.

"Originals" is the new "revolutionary".  

I'm glad that the noobs will be gone soon, and as a Glee watcher I don't want any more screentime and songs spend on them, but RIB cutting them off and dropping them as if they were poisonous all of a sudden still irks me.

Her part was so minimal that while GB might be "officially" be considered a duet, it really was a Kurt solo in face. The only thing she did was join in on the chorus and give the porny mewls as a counterpoint. Chris sang pretty much the whole song so I'm going to count that in the plus column for Kurt solos. It was as much a duet as CWM was.

I'm not at all surprised that we're not seeing any images of Kurt's 80s outfit as his costumes always are the high point of these kind of eps (think back to Prom Queen when we didn't see the kilt until the ep aired). It's got to be something really special.

Really can't wait to hear the Kurtcedes duet. Cannot believe that they haven't been allowed to sing together since season one!

NGL wouldn't mind some Kurtcedes dynamics back in New York. Amber isn't the greatest actress but her and Chris have chemistry, give me some Kurtcedes and more Kurtana. Also of course Hummelberry.

God, as much as I like Mercedes I don't want dramatic acting for her but I always liked the friendship between her and Kurt. It wasn't so competitive like Hummelberry nor snarky like Kurtana nor treacly like Klaine.

The vibe they had in the Unique SL in S3 is more what I hope they use them for.

Somebody should just put the Noobs out of their misery and make an official statement. Maybe it's me but it certainly looks like it's going to be originals visiting that loft a lot. Doubt Diana will be too available but I think she's game for a couple appearances as well Mike and Mark.

Seriously doubt Blam and Blee will take over the show, too much star wattage in NY.

Brittany gets her high school diploma at last. Santana buys her a ticket to New York City.
The episode ends with Will being offered an interview to head Vocal Adrenaline. He’s in the choir room, thinking about it, reminiscing about Glee club. He shuts the lights and leaves the room.
The “New Directions” episode airs on March 25.
