^I know right? And it was bad done on purpose... It had to be an highshool rendition of the play after all.Buenos wrote:To this day, I still don't get what elicited laughs so badly (I am Unicorn) from the Romeo and Juliet scene that Kurt and Rachel did, it wasn't fantastic but it wasn't some unbelievably bad over the top implausible acting.. Heck it was better then most of the acting the other performers do on the show..
About the reason the were laughing, is like what brisallie said: they were not be able to separate Kurt as a person from what he was perfoming/his ability on that. Artie laughed before he even started, so only the thought of Kurt attempting to be Romeo was laughable to him.

How would it have been if they had Blaine act the same Romeo and Juliet scene for his audition?
We all know that Rachel would have had no trouble kissing him, but would Blaine have wet the panties of Beiste, wearing the same tights and feathered cap as Kurt did, saying Shakespeare's (!) dialogue?
But no: they would have put him in normal pants, giving him a modern translation to recite, maybe dialogue from WSS, changing the odds and stacking the deck against Kurt, like they did with the song auditions.

Thanks for all the welcome posts! Just to make it clear from my OP, I didn't care a jot if Chandler was 'masculine' or not. I just didn't think he acted it that well. It came across a bit cartoonish to me. But mainly, my problem was that KURT didn't treat him seriously. He found it all diverting and sweetly funny, not a real "OMG, could I be attracted to someone other than my bf?" moment. Annoying.

From the REAL people I have met in choir, chandler is a fraction of how some people act ( they are even more energetic and just all around huge personalities). Kurt on the other hand I don't know what the writers were doing there.

Okay. I must do a mea culpa: I'm feeling pessimistic about the NYADA thing. But I'll wait and see. I will.

I had no problem with Chandler. Didn't find him hot, but he made me smile. About Kurt, I would say that he did not feel attracted to him, but liked his flattery.

Georgette's p0int is a good one. Chandler was played for comic relief, so it was irrelevant in a sense whether he was masculine as opposed to effeminate, it was more that the take away was that there was no genuine attraction from Kurt. Chandler wasn't taken serious.

Don't feel pessimistic Paulo! I'm certain Kurt is going to get in. Have confidence!
Kurt is definitely going to get into NYADA, and we will all celebrate right here! Kurt will be appreciated and complimented and will prove yet again that he's as talented and special as we've known all along, finally validated by someone who actually recognizes a star when she sees one (the dean).

I agree. And that's why I would say that, in the end, indeed one of the infuriating messages that got across was "Kurt can't do better than Blaine" and "Kurt wouldn't seriously desire anyone else when he has alpha gay Blaine".

Thank you! I will follow your example and get my profiteroles and some wine ready to celebrate.

bah, for me, it's something that is irrelevant nearly all the time, with any character and in any situationBuenos wrote:Georgette's p0int is a good one. if you notice, many fringe characters on glee are cartoonish or for comic relief. remember the 3 funeral directors? I love them! in S1 that VA coach that they tried to hire - that guy was hilarious mainly because it's the way he looked. oh and that creepy predatory gay teacher what his name? not to mention sue and coach washington. they are not wacky personalities that you don't see a lot in real life but they did the most "comedy" of this show, consider that many other main characters are either bland or serious or sad all the time.

Shinra I agree it should be irrelevant, the problem for me is that the glee writers have an almost masochistic creepy way of having Kurt have negative consequences for not being "masculine" enough even within the glee club. Since some of the writers are themselves gay it just strikes me as bizarre, how they always have Kurt wallow in emotional angst porn.

Re: 3x17 "Dance with Somebody" Watch & Discussion thread
At the same time, Glee is targeted to a very young audience if I'm not mistaking, so personally I think their perspective would always be bizarre for us and I'm pretty sure the lack of continuity, for instance, must not be very bothersome for a 14 years old teen. Of course, there is also a more adult audience for glee, so all these discussions are not meaningless but I'm not sure the things we see as a message are actually intentional inputs from the writers.Buenos wrote:Shinra I agree it should be irrelevant, the problem for me is that the glee writers have an almost masochistic creepy way of having Kurt have negative consequences for not being "masculine" enough even within the glee club.
