So, I’m not really good at writing things like this, but I just wanted to say that I love you so much!
The fact that you are openly gay in the entertainment industry is really inspiring to someone like me who dreams of being there one day,

Dear Chris,

It’s been quite a year for you, hasn’t it? Glee, Struck By Lightning, Land of Stories…
Not to mention the various awards and accolades. You have become something of a hero.

Obviously not the type that dons a mask and spandex suit to fight evildoers (at least that we know about), but the kind of hero that gives hope to the hopeless.
The kind that kids can look to for reassurance that things will get better. That dreams do come true.
The kind of hero that inadvertently spearheads a campaign for social change that has rocked the earth damn near off its axis.
And that’s what you are.

A hero.

Dear old Billy’s quote from Twelfth Night is quoted often enough that I’m sure you’ve heard it:
“…but be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em.”
Quite often, the first two are the ones we hear about - prodigies and hard workers, respectively - but rare are those that fall into that third category.

I believe you are in the third.

Among your peers are Martin Luther, George Washington, and Rosa Parks;
those who didn’t plan to redefine an entire religion, lead a brand new country to freedom, or spark a whirlwind of change,
but did so anyway, simply because they spoke up for that which they believed in.
Each was swept unexpectedly into a movement greater than him or herself to lead by example with wisdom and grace.

You have done the same.

At the tender age of twenty-two, you have become the face of equality, a man that stands heads and shoulders above the rest, and will be remembered for generations.

You didn’t ask for it. You didn’t have to take it. But you did.

And you have conducted yourself with maturity beyond your years.

I am in awe of you, Chris.
Talented, witty, brilliant, and ridiculously handsome, with a message that has literally saved lives, you are one of a kind. One in six billion.
But the best part?

You are so utterly human. With a past. A history. A story of struggles, and self-doubt, and victory over them.
You are just like us, and that in and of itself, is incredibly encouraging.

You have changed lives. Touched hearts. And taught a lesson in basic human decency that only a boy – now a man – from a small Californian town could possibly do.
So congratulations.

On turning 22.

On your awards.

On your achievements.

On being you.

And finally, if there is a God – which I most certainly believe there is – He’s smiling. Brilliantly. And if God’s willing, and the creek don’t rise, then maybe one day I will get the honor of shaking your hand.

Dear Chris,

There are so many things I want to thank you for!

First of all, thank you for being you, and showing me that it’s okay to be just that; yourself. I have the courage to be more like myself because of you.

Also, your voice! Your voice is SO lovely and it’s a big stress reliever for me.

You’ve made me a better person! Because of you, I’m not that much of a bystander anymore and I actually stand up for others and do something about bullies.

You’re also the reason why I’m no longer scared of the future and what it might have in store for me.
I’m graduating and going into high school this year, and there has been a lot of talk about where I’m headed academically.
At first, I was under so much pressure and so stressed out because I felt like I had to decide what I wanted to become immediately, because if I didn’t, I’d end up as a failure.
Later on I realized that I don’t have to decide right away, I’m still so young! I told myself to use you as an example; you’re doing so many different things and you’re super successful!
You sing, you act, and you write. So no matter what I decide, as long as I work my hardest like you do, I’ll get to where I want to be.
You have helped me come to this conclusion, and also prevented many sleepless nights, which I am especially thankful for.

You are just such a fantastic role model for everyone, and I hope you have an amazing birthday! You deserve it!

Chris, Happy Birthday!!

Although I just know you for about few months ago, but I admire you very much, for what you’ve been through and what you have done.
We don’t have that much of bullies in here, but you(and Kurt) had teach me how to face it, and stay strong.
You give me laughter, and a role model to learn. So thank you.

For most of my life, I didn’t have any dreams or aspirations for the future.
Sure, I went through a phase of wanting to be an archaeologist after watching the Indiana Jones trilogy,
but for the most part, I didn’t ever really think about what I wanted to do in the future.
When I was younger, this was because I was afraid of wanting; of failure.
For the past couple years, it’s been because I didn’t think I would make it that long.

You helped change that.

You’re my hero - that’s not a word I use lightly.
You’re so young and have accomplished so much, and it makes me hope that I’ll be able to actually try to go after my dreams.
