The Glee Project 2
Since the Glee Project 2 is about to start, and we know that we are going to have at least one, two, four, or 107 winners from the show on Glee next season, I figured I'd start a thread for the Glee Project 2 discussion.
Who else will be watching? Will they find the next Damian McGinty, Samuel Larsen, and Alex Newell? Or will Ryan turn out to be the luckiest person in the world and find the next Chris Colfer or Lea Michelle?

Re: The Glee Project 2
OK now that I have posted an introduction post, I'm going to post my initial thoughts.
I'm sitting here watching the casting epsiode on demand. There are definitely some nice voices in the cast. They didn't really shown enough for me to make decide who I like or not. Some of the boys have really goodd and unique voices. There was one boy how had a country flair, and one boy who Ryan cut off after two lines and told him he was in.
I have to say that they are really playing up the whole underdog thing on there. As I was watching, I almost got the feeling that they were looking for people with special needs to be on the cast. Out of the 80 contenders who made it to the call back, they brought two kids in a wheelchair and two blind kids--and one of the wheelchair kids and one of the blind kids made the cast. It just kind of felt to me that they had specific instructions to cast a person in a wheelchair and a blind person in the cast. It will be interesting to see how that pans out.

The video is fun but there're already half of the candidates I'm no more interested in (lack too much charisma). I also feel like there's a lot of potential rachel among the girls . My favorite so far is the girl who looks like J.Bieber.
same thing and not surprised about it.Jellyrolls wrote:As I was watching, I almost got the feeling that they were looking for people with special needs to be on the cast.

I remember seeing that video during the Glee marathon on Oxygen a couple weeks ago. My faves are the first two guys in the vid.

Re: The Glee Project 2
I saw the videos for knowing the contestant etc (ugh, sometime I'm THAT bored), and, honestly, I'm not so impressed with anyone. :|
For the girls, I like the androgyny one -seems interesting and have a nice voice- and there was another that had a quite theatrical background that seemed not so bad; for the boys, there was one that said he was Darren Criss brother (I closed the video), but I liked the one that has ADHD and, if I remember correctly, autism issues, -and in the video is the second whom sings- seems interesting.
Not for the people, of course, but because Ryan Murphy and his gang with this go against what Gleeteaches taught: that everybpdy is special. Weel, seems like that if you suffer of some kind of disability (not necessarily phisical), then you're more interesting and special than someone else who is labeled as "normal".
In the first season of TGP (season? boh), it wasn't so obvious. Mah, why am I surprised, I don't know.

Yes, it is probably so. They covered a lot of stereotypes of people outcasted by society and, honestly, I don't like it that much. :/Jellyrolls wrote:I have to say that they are really playing up the whole underdog thing on there. i heard the wheelchaired girl sings badly? or is it just because some people don't like her voice? voice and singing abilities are 2 different things, but many people confuse them.

Re: The Glee Project 2
The wheelchair has kind of a weird nasally voice. It seemed like they liked the way she moved in the wheelchair.
Re: The Glee Project 2
ok i just listened. that wheelchair girl sounds normal to me.
the main thing is, they need the bline man (black, blind - 2 birds in one stone). that skinny/beiber girl may get in too because she is unique. they can't have a blaine brother because so far he has only one bro and they can't suddenly pop another one in, unless he's the illegitimate child of his dad who had an affair long time ago or something. so that guy is definitely out. the fat girl may get in. they need some "representation" here. everybody else aren't memorable, except MAYBE that asian guy, but they will need a finn 2.0 right?

Re: The Glee Project 2
I DVR'd the Glee Project last night, and I'm watching the beginning of if. They said in the opening introduction that this year only one contendor will win a seven episode stint on glee. It will be interesting to see if it is really only one person getting the seven episodes and if anyone gets a permanent gig
ETA: Now, it's straight out of Ryan's mouth on the show that there will only be one winner this season. Now I'm sure there will be at least 12 of the 14 people in the room getting on the show.

Re: The Glee Project 2
there were rounds of auditions for these people. they already know who amongst them will be on the show. this whole thing is just a show. if they are going to give any of them permanent status, they would have already decided.
so who got eliminated the first round?

I haven't finished watching it yet. I'll watch the rest after work tonight.
If they did decide to give someone permanent status, they wouldn't have announced it yet to keep the show a surprise.

did she really say that???? I didn't watch that show.

Re: The Glee Project 2
Just finished watching the Glee Project. They sent Maxfield (the kid with the longish hair and the twangy voice) home. I liked him a lot. I thought he had a nice voice, and I thought he did a good job on the his last chance song. Ryan thought he was charming, but didn't find him interesting.
Tyler, the transgender kid, was also in the bottom 3. He really can't sing very well, but Ryan loves his story. Ryan told him that all of the other kids were stronger singers than him, but he has as spirit that makes him more interesting.
Some girl who's name I've forgotten (she's the Turkish Muslim). I didn't think her song was that great, but Ryan loved her.
I have to say that Zach and Robert get on my nerves when I watch the show. They just love everything.

Re: The Glee Project 2
^ anybody have S1 ratings as comparisons? It's on Oxygen, so it won't have big numbers like broadcast TV does.
Teh Glee Project was nominated by the Critics Choice Award for Outstanding Achievements in reality programming (the same award in which Glee got none).

The S1 numbers are listed below season two. Ratings are down.
Re: The Glee Project 2
Robert took a real hit for me when I watched the first Glee Project (well, tbf, everybody took a hit except for Ian Brennan, because it was pretty obvious that he did not want to be there). I used to think he could spot talent because he called Chris 'special' and brought him in without even knowing for what role he could audition, but then I noticed in the Glee Project he calls everyone special. It's just a buzzword. I actually pity the boy or girl he doesn't single out as 'special', lol.Jellyrolls wrote:I have to say that Zach and Robert get on my nerves when I watch the show. Zach calling out Damian's show-faces was pretty interesting, too. Is he as candid with the original cast, I wonder?
The only reason I watched the first one was to see the mentors embarrass themselves, tbh. Does Lea get to say anything amazingly stilted? --my favorite from the first one was Darren saying that it's hard to play gay so What's-his-face got special kudos during the Duet-assignment or w/e that was.
Wouldn't it be funny if the Glee Project out-lives Glee itself, though!

what does it mean hard to play gay? if DC isn't flirting w/ girls he's very gay. my hubby was sure he was a closeted gay.

This is exactly what I was thinking after watching the episode last night - wondering if Ryan, the king of the lying liars who lie, will actually hold true to the "only one winner" statement or if he'll, of course, lie again.
It's too early for me to decide if I really like anyone out of the 14 yet, but, I did like that two of the guys seemed to be aware of acting - the one who wanted to tell stories with his songs (like Chris), and the other who mentioned he'd been rejected numerous times from acting jobs he tried for. Glee has enough wonderful singers; we need more great actors, so, I like them the best so far.

With Ryan, I expect him to pick the one that I like the least. hehe.
I don't know why, but I have a feeling either the transgender kid, or the Justin Beiber kid will wind up winning.

Re: The Glee Project 2
^ I doubt about the trans kid. I just posted in the spoiler section that
- Spoiler:
- alex and lindsey will be back next season straight from the mouth of the lying lier who lies. so apparently alex will take the trans story. they won't have 2 trans people on the show. unless they will have them date? I mean how rare it is to have a trans person?

Re: The Glee Project 2
as far as chris being a mentor, he won't be doing broadway stuff. if there's a broadway episode it would be either lea's or DC's. chris will be doing "emotional" episode and teach the folks how to cry properly. I swear.

Re: The Glee Project 2
Seems like they're sticking to the game-plan of the first season with their 'themes'. Vulnerability (Cory's ep) will deal with the emotional/crying-thing, most likely, Sexuality is Naya's and Dance-ability is Samuel's. I'm guessing that if they do the rest of the so-called themes Chris will get either Believability or Generosity.
I would laugh for days if he got suckered into 'Pair-ability', though.
