KUrt did the high note?     

Kurt did one high note, but not the one he botched in season 1. Strangely enough that note wasn't sung at all in the 2.0 song.

This episode really is making Rachel look more horrible and divaish than she's ever been.  I've never been annoyed by her the way I am tonight.  

Me too. I reall dislike her now. Claiming that high F from Kurt even before DG became a new diva-off.   

The only real diva there was Kurt, because he doesn't need to try to convince anyone of how amazing he is. Or need to be told by others that he's amazing, because he knows that he is.   

Well, at least Mr. Shue said that they all were wonderful.   
But how I wished for a redeeming storyline for Kurt and DG, with Will saying something specifically about that botched note.
  

 

The divorce part gets his attention, and he does not look angry or upset, he to me seems indifferent. It is Blaine that is not happy about it.

More significantly: Kurt looks directly at Blaine when April mentions the divorce, as if he deep down knows that's true.
Chris is so subtle in his acting, lol.

They really should have let all the kids vote for Kurt instead. All it would have taken was 10 seconds of screentime, a few reaction shots from Mr. Shue and some ND members, but it would have solved all the issues I now have for the way they redid 'Defying Gravity'. It would have been satisfying and closure for Kurt and us as his fans.

Darren sucks so bad. Way to kill this song too.

I thought I gotten used to his constant hogging the mic and camera, but the way he was right up in Gwyneth's face during his lines in 'Happy' were so annoying, ugh. And his voice sounded downright bad, as if someone had punctured a hole in his lunges.   

You'd think the grease stain would have at least voted for Kurt.

Did I just miss him, or was Kurt not even in the middle of the students in the diva voting part?

Kurt was missing durign the voting, and I think I'll accept the head canon that he just didn't want to vote and took a long bathroom break.

And indeed: even Blaine didn't vote for Kurt.   

So the whole point of the diva off was so that Mercedes could fluff Rachel's ego for her.

Strangely, me too. Let them ride off in the sunset together and live happily ever after, never to be touched or ruined by Glee again.

Can I just say that this show knows Kurt is a lead and does everything to try to convince everyone that he is important (prominence next to Rachel, Schue standing with his hands on Kurt and Rachel's shoulder, etc) except give him actual storylines.

100% agree. They know he is their biggest male draw, and yet they keep stucking him in the back or have him standing next to other characters to prop them up.
It's baffling and infuriating.  

I want Kurt and Sam to develop a friendship.

Rekindle their friendship, you mean. Sam and Kurt have been friends since season 2, untill Blee threw that under the bus to promote Blam.

Although I understand the rightful rage of some Kurtsies, and I'm the first to admit that the writing sucked and there was too much repetition and high school endgame/soulmates stuff I actually enjoyed this episode?

Sure, there were things that bothered me: Kurt and his (non-)role in DG, that whole stupid diva-off to begin with, Puck and Quinn reuniting when they barely acknowledged eachother for years, throwing Santana under the bus to get a Mercedes/Rachel friendship, Gwyneth Paltrow's annoying acting, showing Chris and Lea visibly upset in the last scene.

On the upside: no Sam and hardly any Blaine, no noobs, noone insulting or undermining their relationship with Kurt for a change, some very nice Brittana scenes ('Valerie' was a highlight for me), and the original cast having fun together again.

I'll take this Glee over the season 4 mess anyday.

Call me an old sentimental fool: I’ll admit freely that I fell into Glee’s “They’re all back!”  trap with open eyes and quite willingly. Seeing the original cast together again (sadly minus 1), seeing how the choir room was used the way it was meant for: to sing songs, and seeing how Mr. Shue cares so much for his little glee club but continues to be an awful teacher….. it brought me back to when this show was still good and actually funny.
A lot of this feeling can be credited to the characters who came back to Lima for this 100^th celebration. The originals showed once again that they don’t need the $2 million costing bells and whistles to sell a number like the new New Directions do. And though the storylines were as repetitive and horrible written as ever the old cast at least know how to sell them and make them enjoyable to watch anyway. It’s called chemistry and RIB foolishly tore that apart and threw it away.   

 
Before this episode aired, after reading the spoilers, I would have sworn I would not accept Quick and Brittana as couples again, and sure there is still a whole lot left unsaid and to be desired for. But damn, did I cheer when they kissed in the end.    

But please, can these 2 couples be the only highschool soulmates/endgame ships of Glee? April told Klaine the truth about probably getting divorced a few months after their teen wedding. I’ll fully accept that as canon if they go through with that horrid marriage storyline.
 
The umpteenth diva-off wasn’t as boring as I thought it would be because Lea and Amber made it work: their Fondue for Two was hilarious. Amber really improved on her acting, imo.
Despite their arrogant diva attitudes, especially in comparison to the not so unimpressive other glee club members’ college accomplishments so far, and the rewriting of glee club’s canon history (Rachel and Mercedes against the rest of the club, say what?) I liked the way Rachel and Mercedes solved their silly feud, but what I really did not like is the need of the writers to throw Santana under the bus in the process.   

The Glee writers are not exactly known for their long term planning nor for subtlety, and often friendships on Glee get made, broken and rekindled purely depending on which characters will be put together next in the storylines they seem to pull out of a hat randomly. So considering the casting news for the next few episodes it was clear to me in this episode that the Pezberry, PCA best pals award winning friendship had to be thoroughly stomped on again to make way so Mercedes can be Rachel’s next female friend.   

 
Poor Kurt was caught in the middle of this diva-off, and after witnessing Rachel and Santana fighting the past few weeks as well I’m sure he’s had enough of it all, and boy: do I agree with him. His reaction shots were priceless though, as always.   

What bothered me in ‘Defying Gravity’ was Kurt apparently taking a bathroom break halfway through the song only to pop up again to sing that high note at the end (which wasn’t even the note he deliberately botched the first time). That was weird and annoying. What’s the point of him being in that number at all if it only focused on Mercedes and Rachel’s diva-off anyway?
It would have been better all around if Kurt either had been left out of DG completely, or the 2 ladies could have diva-offed on another song while DG was turned into a Kurt’s solo (which would have been his first this season!). A second chance to prove to his former glee club teacher and peers he could sing the botched note after all, as a nice closure of that past misconception and a reminder of his love for his dad.
But that would have meant giving Kurt a storyline of his own, and duh: that only happens when there’s a guest star to pimp, so they just gave him a single explanatory line instead.   

 
It was nice to see April and even Holly again (though how Gwyneth got that Emmy is a mystery to me), and I liked how they used them in the episode and the glee club’s storyline. With all the times the glee club has been threatened to get disbanned by Sue I really don’t care much for the drama of it anymore. But even as I will happily cheer when Lima and the noobs will be left behind it would be nice to know that Mr. Shue will not properly prepare another bunch of kids for their next competition again next school year somewhere off screen.
The last auditorium scene felt like pushing in the knife mercilessly though, and by connecting Finn’s loss to glee club’s demise they gave that knife an evil twist to plant it even deeper to boot. That was not necessary, imo.
Remembering Finn and what he meant in their lives (like Puck and Quinn looking at his football shirt, and Mike saying that it’s hard to believe anything lasts) was nice and in a way more poignant and needed than at last week’s Nationals. I also understand the significance of finding a new home for Finn’s photo/plaque, but seeing Kurt and Rachel (or more Chris and Lea) tearing up over it felt like Glee zooming in on a too intimate moment, using their real life hurt as cheap grief porn.

My patience with Rachel is at an end. Yes, she is talented, but she has been extremely lucky to have gotten as far as she has as fast as she has, and with the help of a lot of people around her. For her to put on airs the way he has been the past few episodes has really been rubbing me the wrong way. I can't blame Santana for wanting to take her down a few pegs in front of everyone, with the way Rachel walks into McKinley like some kind of conquering hero. The reality is that Rachel would probably still be in Lima if it hadn't been for everyone in ND basically doing the heavy lifting for her, first to help her into NYADA and then Kurt and Santana supporting her while she was going for this part.

I really don't see the point of making Rachel into such a beast at this point unless they are planning for a serious humbling further down the road. The writers have got to be aware of just how obnoxious they've made her character.

Cutting Kurt almost completely out of the song and then out of consideration in the "who sang it best" competition really irked me. My headcannon is saying that Kurt really doesn't give a shit. Rachel and Mercedes were the ones all about trying to prove how great they are. Kurt just wanted to sing that song because he loves it and he could now sing it without the worry of trying to sheild his father from harassment hanging over his head.

Besides... despite Rachel's claim of having won the origial DG sing off (now with everyone knowing that Kurt threw the note), she really didn't. And Kurt won their last diva off, so putting himself into competition here would have been pointless. He knows that he's at least as good as the girls are in his own way, so putting it up for a vote wouldn't mean anything. He doesn't need that kind of affirmation.

Yea Kurt won the Diva off among their NYADA contemporaries, he has nothing to prove.

I have to add that Amber has gotten way better in her line readings, she's got alot more confidence and screen prescence.

Naya is underrated how well she handles the bitch lines they saddle Santana with.

The only thing this episode did was

1) Make me completely hate Rachel  

and

2) Ship Quick   

It seems like Rachel is getting the 5 personality treatment like the others, "I always thought it was you and me against all of them" WTH    every week its this person was my best friend and equally as talented as me, get into a fight, now its this person. And Kurt has been there for both of them and told them they were talented but they can't even mention him once       ?

The only ones I liked this episode was Kurt, Puck, Quinn, and surprisingly Santana. Everything Santana said to Rachel was true and I didn't feel the least bit sorry for her.

Plus, the only real Diva that has ever been in that choir room is Kurt

ok, this "completition... accusation... crying... making up" storyline is getting so old my teeth are fallen out just by watching the show.

please glee, get something new, like murder or something, because if i had to watch one more episode of this crap, i would have to murder someone.

how about this: rachel murders santana because she can't stand her endless bitching; kurt murders blaine because that creepy controlling sticky ass won't give kurt any freedom. sue murders Will so Matt can get out of the show happily ever after. and sam murders (fill in the blank) so chord can finally sing some sad country songs while his character is in being hung.

when will Game of Throne be back? I need some good murders and beheadings. this high school crap is driving me insane!

Still not over this crappy fest. I actually started feeling duped because I watched the whole episode, thinking that I'd be positive and give the show another/umpteenth chance. I guess I just chose the wrong episode to jump back in.

luckily you have gained all the precious time you would have otherwise wasted downloading and watching this episode. to give you an idea: chris has no focus and no storyline and only couple of lines (not even complete lines) in the DG song. some reaction shots, and a few words here and there that i don't remember.
