- The dark parts are my favorite. I am glad chris goes there. I don't think kids (except very little ones who can't read yet) will be scared because we see scary stuff on tv all the time. About Arthur not following Alex - I think it will come back to help Alex (not Arthu coming back, but the fact that she voluntarily leaves her true love indicates her strong will, and that despite the witches' combined effort to curse her, she will eventually prevail as she will not let her emotion get in her way.

- Emmerich is the Masked Man and Little Bo Peep's son.
When Little Bo Peep got pregnant she was afraid that TMM would harm her child or herself, so she warned the Fairy Godmother that TMM wanted to steal something from her. The Fairy Godmother (Alex and Conner's grandmother) then caught TMM (her 2nd son and A and C's uncle) while he tried to steal the blue portal potion and put him in the Pinocchio Prison.
That was 10 years ago, before Little Bo Peep's pregnancy even showed. When Emmerich was born about half a year later he was brought to the 'Other World' (our real world) and adopted by his 'mom', to protect him from TMM if he ever would find out about Emmerich.
But Morina the witch saw in her crystal ball that TMM doesn't even know he has a son.
I think Arthur didn't follow Alex in to the fairytale world (like e.g. the Tin Man and Peter Pan did) because he already knew his destiny (and so did Alex), that he would become the king of England. Arthur knew he had a heavy responsibility that would start soon after Alex left his story, and although he did hesitate and wanted to follow her he took that responsibility instead.
I really liked that part of the book, and t.b.h. I don't think this is the last we saw/heard of Arthur, as Mother Goose is still in his story, and my guess is that she'll be back in book 5 or 6 again.

IIRC the Masked Man mainly started a relationship with Bo Peep to coach her into taking over the kingdom from Little Red Riding Hood, with him standing in the wing to give her directions. If Bo Peep had succeeded to do that (before the Masked Man was imprisoned) then he could use her power as queen to go after his mother, the Fairy Godmother.
But before all that could happen Bo Peep got pregnant and, being afraid of what the Masked Man might do to her child, ratted him out to the Fairy Godmother and he got imprisoned.
I don't know why Bo Peep still continued to work on the Masked Man's plans (and eventually became queen) after she gave birth and sent Emmerich to safety in the Other World, but I guess she just was too much in love with him.

Thank you Marie. It's sad to realize that I am so forgetful these days. I vaguely remember that I predicted that german boy being LBP's son back then, and discussed it w/ you guys on an older thread. That was only a year ago.

I haven't really liked the style of the french covers, but this one is a little bit better. They are sort of...too much of everything.
