Re: Kurt Hummel Spoiler Thread - part 19
Here Comes Santa Claus was fantastic and I can't wait to see the whole performance. Think it's going to be the highlight of the episode.
Chipmunk Christmas is a big ol' heap of Glee crack. Shame to waste the three best voices on the show with this, but I'm sure that in the context of the episode it'll be entertaining.
I'm going to admit that I wasn't thrilled with Away in a Manger. It's such an overtly religious song that I really cannot see Jewish Rachel and Atheist Kurt wanting to sing it. And as a non-Christian myself (raised Jewish/practicing Wiccan) I totally get that this is not my holiday. But a song like this just reinforces that and kind of throws me out of the fun part of the season that everyone can participate with. Totally respect the religious views of others, but I found including this particular song a bit off putting.

My favorite one is Here Comes Santa, is so funny to listen to and I think Kurtcheltana sounds good together.
@Ranwing, also take me aback they chose a religious song as Away in a Manger, because as you pointed Rachel is jewish and Kurt is atheist, so I don't get it. But, it could be they like the song itself, as Rachel liked O holy night
The Chimpmunk song, it brought me lots of memories from my childhood. I remember the first time I listened to it was when I saw a film of Kirstie Alley and John Travolta. Anyways, I like it, but do they really sing this song or they simple changed the names? I really wonder what's gonna be this context lol
Re: Kurt Hummel Spoiler Thread - part 19
Perhaps there is a "work excuse" for Away in the Manger.

I love drunk puppet Kurt!
I really like Here Comes Santa Claus, it's so cute! And lmao, the Chipmunks song is entertaining, but I wish we got another version with their regular voices too.

I see it in the sense of "It is a Christmas song and I like the melody"?! I am also not a religious person, but it doesn't really bother me. It is a bit odd, but nothing for me to spend any time on complaining
"Here comes Santa Claus" sounds great and all three voices are equally highlighted and used. And they sound great together! I hope it is sung during the shopping window scene, becausethat part looks beautiful and I really hope to see it somewhere posted on tumblr.

I liked all of the song, but "Here Comes Santa Claus" is my favourite too. The chipmunk song is cute but I wish they didn't waste a Kurcheltana song for something so silly, because we probably won't get another one for a very long time after this episode maybe even never. Didn't pay a lot of attention to the lyrics of "Away in the Manger" but their voice sound lovely.

Tickle me! I so want to see how they do the chipmunks in the show. I used to love these songs when I was a kid we had the whole album of songs speeded up like this with a charming band leader. They were actually squirrels because we don't have chipmunks here and they were calked Simeoni, Nestori and Elmeri. Oh reliving the golden childhood with chipmunks called Rachel, Santana and Kurt...and I loved they made Kurt the mischievous one. (My life is dull if I get exited about this!)
The only thing worth expecting from Glee anymore is Chipmunk songs.

As the text in bold: I think that song might be for the scene they're Santa's elves. But having second thoughts, I wonder if they actually will sing the chipmunks song instead ,because who's the man who say their names? Santa?Lottie2303 wrote:I see it in the sense of "It is a Christmas song and I like the melody"?! I am also not a religious person, but it doesn't really bother me. As I come from a culture which is mostly christian, is kinda hard for me to understand how might feel those who are not, but I guess they might feel unrelated to this celebration. But by other side, I feel Christmas has been so spread around the world, that anyone celebrates it now. Not even knowing the real meaning.
Re: Kurt Hummel Spoiler Thread - part 19
I actually think "Away In A Manger" will be the window scene (mixed in with a group number with McSuckly.
Re: Kurt Hummel Spoiler Thread - part 19
I think the chipmunks song is with Santa and the elves, while Here Comes Santa Claus is the shop window scene.
I'm an atheist, but I don't mind the religious song because Christmas is meant to be a religious holiday, and I personally just enjoy the melody while listening. It does bother me a bit that Kurt and Rachel are singing on it, but I don't really mind because Rachel has chosen to sing O Holy Night in the past which means she probably likes to sing any song that sounds good, and Kurt has probably sung such songs as a kid, or maybe there's a reason for them to sing it in the episode? Maybe they just feel the same way as I do about religious Christmas songs?

Re: Kurt Hummel Spoiler Thread - part 19
'Here Comes Santa Claus' sounds fantastic!!! Love that they probably were inspired by the Bing Crosby & the Andrew Sisters version of the song.
Now give me the name of any singer (besides Tina) on the new ND who could have pulled that song off in Andrews Sisters style like this?.......???.................right.
The chipmunk song is fun, but I agree it's such a waste of good voices and a song time slot in the episode. I'll try to slow it down so we can hear their real voices, as soon as I finish writing this post.
I love their voices on 'Away in a Manger', but the editing/processing of the choir is absolutely horrible.
I don't mind Kitty on the song (I like her voice), but the ND side seems to be shoehorned in, and it should have been a New York song only, but we can't have that more than once per episode, right?
'Rockin' Around' is a good song, sung by ND's strongest singers (bar Marley).
'Mary's Boy Child' is terrible, absolutely terrible. 'Love Child' is better (same singers) but I cannot really hear Tina and Marley, only Unique, which makes the backup vocals and therefore the song itself blander than it could have been.
And I actually prefer those religious songs over the other songs, as the religious songs often have beautiful melodies, harmonies and arrangements, plus they have a certain quiet and serenity.
I also like the jazzy American Christmas songs, but as I live in a country where there's not a big emphasis on Santa Claus (we have Sinterklaas) they don't really give me a feeling of Christmas, whereas the religious songs do.
Singing about the miracle of the birth of a child in a stable in winter, how that united shepherds, kings and angels, even when you don't believe in it actually having happened, is not a bad thing, even when you're Jewish or an Atheist. To me that is no different than singing about a Santa Claus, something most people don't believe in either, once they've grown up.
It's all about peace, warmth, and love after all.

Okay, I changed the pitch and slowed down 'the Chipmunk Song'. It's not perfect, but you can hear Chris clearer here: link to my tumblr.

Do you know what the best part of all these Christmas songs are (even the ones that I don't particularly care for)?
Not Blarren. No Klaine duet.
That alone is going to make this an epic Christmas special.

I don't know about the idea that everyone celebrates Christmas no matter their faith. My husband is Jewish and I am not, and since we've been together six years so far. We're still working on how to blend the holidays--it isn't so widespread that it comes naturally to him.

Re: Kurt Hummel Spoiler Thread - part 19
^Not celebrating, but singing? Especially when you want to become a professional singer?
Speaking just for myself, but I earn more than half of my extra performing money (on top of my voice coach salary) primarily in December, singing Christmas songs, in churches, on Christmas markets (with my Charles Dickens quartet), at fancy restaurants, business after parties, and receptions in castles.
And I'm not religious. I can understand why it would be a bit jarring for a Jew like Rachel, but even Barbra Streisand made 2 Christmas albums.

Re: Kurt Hummel Spoiler Thread - part 19
In my family we cover all the bases. My parents and brother celebrate Hanukkah. My sister-in-law (non-practicing Russian Orthodox) and ex-sister-in-law (lapsed Catholic) celebrate Christmas. I celebrate Yule. It's kind of fun blending all the holidays. No one can say no to latkes.
It's not the fact that Glee is doing overtly religious songs that bothers me because I do respect what this holiday means to people and you can't completely divorce the religious meaning from the holiday. It's just having Kurt and Rachel singing that particular song. Rachel's faith and Kurt's atheism are very integral parts of their characters and their beliefs (or in Kurt's case lack of faith) were issues that they both had to defend. Having them sing a very overtly Christian song feels like something of a miscue. Had it been Santana (who I assume was raised Catholic) or Mercedes or Quinn singing it, I would have thought it was just fine. The only way it makes sense for Kurt and Rachel to want to sing it would be because (as Marie explained) they just love the melody, but otherwise the song has no personal meaning for them.
Still delighted over the fact that we don't have to suffer through a Klaine duet. And admittedly, on Tumblr, it's entertaining watching the Klaine stans foam at the mouth over it.

I'm guess the minority here, which is OK.
I thought "Baby It's Cold" was one of their best songs together, and "Let it Snow" and the whole Black/White episode of Season 3 was very clever and cute. NGL, the Justin
Timberlake/egg nog , chalet bachelor jokes/vibe was one of the few times that Glee hit its wink/wink humor out of the ballpark.

^Same here.
BICO was the best Klaine duet, imo, and 'Let It Snow' was a close 2nd.
And the B&W special was perfect. Especially how Kurt and Rachel 'acted' so well in synch with the old specials.
Oh, and remember Finn and Puck with their wee toy StarWars lightsabers? Lol.

I plan on buying the whole album for that reason. I don't think I've ever bought a whole Glee album, but having zero Blaine is so rare and special it's apparently a huge motivator for me .Jellyrolls wrote:Best Christmas present ever!Ranwing wrote:Do you know what the best part of all these Christmas songs are (even the ones that I don't particularly care for)?

i wish blam and another noobie sang on that chipmunk song. it's a huge waste of 3 ny actors' singing talent because you can't recognize their voices. but blam etc. on it would be perfect. it would be the same as listening to the original.
but of course, no blam at all is even better.

The show reminded me alot of the old Dick Van Dyke show you see on Nickleodeon, their XMAS specials. That epsiode was one of the few times they actually highlighted Chris' dancing skills, the little shuffle he did during "Let it Snow" was so charming.Glorfindel wrote:^Same here.

He did a good job with the Christmas special, but the episode would have been much better if he got rid of some of the unnecessary Pig Barbara discussions Finn and Rachel had.fantastica wrote:matt morrison was supposed to direct 3 episode but he only directed one? i thought he did a fine job there.
