'Glee' Star Chris Colfer Already Plans an 'Asylum-Set' Film for Next Project
Posted on July 19, 2012, AceShowbiz.com
Explaining that his follow-up project after 'Struck by Lightning' will be a far cry from his previous high school comedy films, Colfer reveals that the new movie is expected to be shot this winter.
Fresh off his big screen stint in "Struck by Lightning", Chris Colfer already plans a new movie project. The Kurt Hummel of "Glee" is preparing a movie which is going to be set in an "insane asylum in the 1930s." A far cry from his previous high school comedy movies, this new one is said to be a lot grittier.
"Yeah, it's a little different than 'The Land of Stories' and 'Struck by Lightning'," the Golden Globe winner tells MTV News about his untitled project in which he will also serve as the scribe. "Just a little bit [different] but, yeah..."
Elaborating further about his next move, the 22-year-old actor gushes, "Hopefully we'll shot that this winter or next winter. I'm in the movie as well, and it doesn't matter how old I am." He continues, "There's no rush like there was with 'Struck by Lightning', [where it was like] 'I gotta look young.' This one, there's some room for age."
Colfer also explains that his new film will be nothing like "Glee", but it is in the same vein as Ryan Murphy's other project, "American Horror Story", which will be set in an asylum as well. "I guess, finally, those asylums get their moment in the light!" the Clovis-born thesp enthuses.
The openly gay actor goes on explaining that he's interested to make an asylum-set pic since he always wants to know what exactly happens in that place. "I don't know. I've always liked crazy people or people with issues of some kind," he says. "I don't mean of reality. I mean like the fictitious stuff that's out there and I've always been fascinated by the human mind."
After starring in "Struck by Lightning", Colfer is ready to reprise his role as Kurt in "Glee" season 4.

Chris Colfer's New Asylum Movie "Completely Different" From Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story
Just because Chris Colfer's next movie script takes place in an asylum, that doesn't mean he's trying to rip off his Glee boss Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story.
"It takes place in an asylum in the 1930s," Colfer told me yesterday while promoting Struck by Lightning, the high school drama that he wrote and stars in with Rebel Wilson and Sarah Hyland. "We started putting it together long before American Horror Story [season two] ever happened.
"When I found out they were doing Asylum, I was like, ‘Oh, crap! People are going to think I stole it from them,'" he continued. "But it really wasn't at all. Thankfully, it's completely different."
Unlike Lightning, Colfer says he'll only have a supporting role in the asylum flick, but it's a "very, very important supporting character."
He also said they have a director signed up and offers out to actors. "I just got a phone call about a meeting about it, and things are moving along," Colfer said. "It might be actually happening much sooner than I thought."
In Struck by Lightning, Colfer stars as an angst-ridden high schooler who blackmails classmates to contribute to his literary magazine before he dies in a freakish accident. Pitch Perfect funnylady Rebel Wilson plays his best friend.
"I'm looking forward to the DVD to come out because there's going to be so many bloopers," Colfer said of working with Wilson. "[Rebel] is so funny. She ad-libs up a story and you never know what's coming out of her mouth. She's a dream to work with."
We can't wait for it either.
And also, Chris has stated multiple times that the title of his new movie can be found within an old, Carl Jung quote.

Re: News and Tweets about Chris's second movie
I’m told that Chris Colfer’s next movie is having a table read soon! A friend who works in the industry got a notice that they were looking for people to fill in some of the roles for the reading, so I assume that it is at least partially un-cast as yet. (Source)

Re: News and Tweets about Chris's second movie
it's not uncommon for movies to be shelved for ages. i remember peter jackson's LOTR as well as King Kong were both long long term projects. especially KK. i think he said he wanted to make this way before TLOR. of couse these are big budget movies and it takes a lot of rich pockets to foot the bill. Chris' movies are all indie low budget so they are much easier to make.
BTW Marie awhile ago you were shooting machine guns in SnB thread and now you are here jumping up and down like a bouncing balloon. i envy your enthusiasm.

Re: News and Tweets about Chris's second movie
^Ah, but that's because S&B is mostly about Glee. Plenty need for shooting and hitting and cursing there.
This is about Chris himself.
Glee is mainly so frustrating because it 'owns' Kurt and we get so little of him on our screens while they still have a firm hold on Chris's time. Seeing evidence of Chris still being able to do other things, projects of his own no less, is just wonderful.
Chris never fails to bring my spirits up again.

I'm wishing that he and his team have found some bigger funders, which would also explain the delay: they'd have more money and time to do the prep work for the movie. But anyway it would nice if he's actually able to do this film this summer.

Re: News and Tweets about Chris's second movie
I've been thinking again about what the name of the movie could be (since he said he took it from a Carl Jung quote) but it's difficult.... A Measure of Darkness? A Still, Small Voice? Who Looks Inside, Awakes? There aren't a lot of short "catchphrases" in his quotes that would work for a movie title.

Re: News and Tweets about Chris's second movie
"A Light in the Darkness", maybe? Who knows. There are so many possibilities. I just love your ideas, though.
"A Measure of Darkness"...utterly perfect. Dark, and brooding.
"A Still, Small Voice"....creepy as hell, if you think about a crazy person who hears voices in their head or something like that.
"Who Looks Inside"...poses an interesting question to all of us.
"Awakes"...not bad, but "Awake" has already been used for a film title.
This is fun!

Re: News and Tweets about Chris's second movie
When Chris mentioned his film was based on a Carl Jung's quote, I searched on google all of his quotes, trying to find out the one who could fit more to the storyline.
All of these are good. But I'm between "Who Looks Inside" and "A Measure of Darkness",for me the word 'darkness" indicates there's something creepy in the story. However , "A Light in the Darkness", it sounds like an inspirational movie to me.
