Hm. That would explain the Doctor Who Google Doodle a few days ago...

Wait, the 50th anniversary special is a movie, right?

I haven't watched season 7 yet, and I assume that you need to finish watching it first before the movie would make sense?

It's about 76 minutes long so I think it's just a special episode, not a movie. Yeah, I think it's important to see the last episode of Season 7 before the special, as well as a 6 minute prequel to the special.  

for me, i think it would be important to watch all the seven seasons because i haven't seen a single episode of doctor who, ever. weird right ???

i downloaded it all (7 seasons + all the specials) a month ago and i'm waiting for the right moment to dive in.

So I watched the prequel before watching season 7 (thanks to a laptop that had decided to rebel against me, I couldn't access the season 7 episodes I've downloaded), and I have no clue what is going on... Which Doctors were these? 12th? 13th? The earlier ones?

This 50th anniversary special movie-length episode sounds quite intriguing though. Ah, must resist googling for details of the plot!

For me, I've been highly selective in the episodes of Doctor Who that I did watch since it got revived. I make it a point to watch all the episodes written by Steven Moffat, at least.

i can't watch tv shows like that. i either watch all episodes or non. even when i'm only interested in one storyline or one character, i always watch the whole thing, at the very least by fast forward. thought, i have been told i can watch only the new doctor who (from 2005) without a problem and that will be my starting point (with christopher eccleston ), because i'm not interested in downloading hundreds of episodes filmed like 40-50 years.

that was more a sherlock teaser then promo. when is it out in UK ??? because e PBS already has a january date for USA but no date for UK ???

I can totally recommend DW. At first, everyone should start with "New Who", which is basically the re-launch in 2005. I'd say the first season is very silly and sometimes plain bad, but hang on and watch it anyway. It really gets worth it (Ironically I love Nine who is only in the first season). Nowadays I am terrified of stone angels, all courtesy of DW, and dread the Christmas special  . Also DW has continuity, which is always a nice bonus especially when you are part of the Glee fandom.

BTW, once Sherlock gets released I may forget Chris exists for a while. In my opinion, Sherlock is a masterpiece and the best show ever produced for television. I cannot wait for the next season.

I wouldn't go that far  , but it is on par with the masterpiece of the 80's series with jeremy brett. and in general it is a very well written and produced show with a phenomenal cast. best product out of UK in a long time, even better then downton abbey.

Most certainly much better then Downton Abbey. I don't get why DA gets all the recognition and Sherlock usually loses against them. I just don't get it.  

it's because abbey is different, no real equivalent in USA. sherlock is a mystery/procedural, and there are a lot of those in USA.

Have never watched the new Sherlock.  

^ you are missing out big time. and it's like 6 90 minute movies. you can watch that in a weekend and you won't regret it.

i won't watch another Holmes movie/show. i also won't watch another zombie movie/show. or vampire movie/show. i watched too many of them and need a break.

just started The Killing last night on netflix. i will keep on watching. so far so good. nothing to report back again.

watched all s4 of downton abbey minus the upcoming xmas episode. the beginning of the season was a bit boring but after the second episode or so it picked up and got better. My only question is how come these characters don't grow old while each season encompasses many years. i mean, they went through one world war in one season.

I only started watching in 2011 and didn't have time to watch everything. So I had to pick amongst the older episodes and I also watch all of Moffat's episodes.

By the way the prequel shows the eight doctor's regeneration into the war doctor, who is the doctor between Classic Who and New Who.

Yay! I can't wait for Series 3! Sherlock is my favourite television show.

I tried Downtown and liked it, but I haven't continued yet. My sister loved it though. I ought to watch the rest someday.

Thanks for the info! You can probably tell that I'm not a true Whovian. I know close to nothing about the old Doctor Who series.

Just finished watching the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who...

Wow. Steven Moffat really doesn't disappoint. I like how he's able to weave such a complex/clever story and still incorporate so much entertaining dialogue and character interactions. I've enjoyed every moment of the movie, and I'm relieved that I've watched enough of the new Doctor Who to get the little inside jokes (such as timely-wimey) and the references to previous story arcs (such as Bad Wolf). It's also really nice to see David Tennant again on the show.

Highly recommended!

I need to rave about this, but last night was SPN mid-season finale and what I thought was "This is a good mid-season finale", they were able to do an episode who got viewers attention and eager for more. And then, I couldn't avoid to compare it with Glee, and think if they also were able to do proper episodes like the one I saw last night, people will back to tune in next week. Or after the hiatus. Anyway, I'm loving SPN more and more everyday, though I'm angry for what the writers did to one of the characters .

...I need to stop comparing Glee with other series, is not healthy.

Lol, so true. I also have to warn everyone, in January my mind will be entirely occupied by Sherlock. I sincerely suspect I will start crying when I see the next episode. My emotions are already in a whirlwind. How I wish I was exaggerating  

apparently there is a pre season episode on the 25th of december. it's a lead in into the new season. it's not 90 mintes, but maybe 30-45 long and it is set in the two years since sherlock has been gone. i'm not sure if it fallows watson or some other character who is sure that sherlock isn't dead.
