Happy Christmas everyone!
To celebrate the occasion, I would like to share one of my favourite Christmas songs:
I hope all of you have a splendid time with your families, wherever you may be on the globe.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas.
I spent mine with my friends mum and friend. He is housemate and best friend.
Didn't want to go at first as my friend the son and the mum don't always get along. She has bi-polar, so she can really sweet then she can be really nasty and hurtful.
We actually had a good time. The meal was lovely. Got so full I dozed off in an arm-chair while everyone else was outside trying to stay cool.
She bought me tonnes of cat figurines that I don't know where to put them, among other things I got.
We weren't even there for a day, when my friend wanted to come back home yesterday, so we left after six.
It took six hours to get there, to his mum's as she lives inter-state.
His mum cooked a roast pork dinner, with roast potatoes, roast carrot, roast pumpkin, peas and corn, and yorkshire puddings.

Re: Bistro on the corner
I ate more then my dad. My weight is around 100 pounds.
My Christmas was actually very eventful and for once not really in the positive way. I have a big sister to sell who acts like 20 years below her age. My little sister has to learn the lesson making fun of me and then getting mad when I start to complain, really isn't nice
Yeah, but the food was very good. We had meat fondue.

Re: Bistro on the corner
It's not Christmas without getting irritated by some 'funny' family members.
We had my hubby's parents over for dinner, which had to be served and eaten at 12.30u in the afternoon, as that's what my parents in law are used to and my father in law (who's 89) has stomach problems so he can't eat much food in the evening. So that means I had to start cooking at 7AM in the morning.....merry Christmas to me.
After the copious meal (shrimp cocktail, asparagus-cream soup, turkey fillet with a syrup crust and mushrooms in the gravy, several vegetables, a potatoes and red onions ovendish, cooked pears with sherry, homemade applecompote and icecream dessert) I had to clean the kitchen and fill up the dishwasher while hubby and his parents took a long nap (can't really blame my husband for this, as he was very tired from having to unexpectedly work because of a last minute problem at the office the day before, and he also helped me prepare Christmas dinner nonetheless). In the mean time my kids needed to unload the built up energy in a few wild games, but surprisingly they behaved and it didn't end in a fight this time.
By the time I finished cleaning up my sister in law and her family arrived (5 persons in total), so then I was running around with coffee, tea, wine and 2 cheesecakes (which I made on Christmas Eve). They left again at about 6PM, but my parents in law just wouldn't budge, and my father in law then began one of his long boring monologues (and sometimes quite disturbing ideas) on World War II, while I was trying not to fall asleep pretending to listen, trying to give subtle hints to get them to leave. When they finally left at 7PM (my husband drove them home) I had to fill the dishwasher again and gave my kids some leftovers from dinner. At 7.30 I was fast asleep on the couch.....I probably snored.
I didn't sit down all day except for dinner, and although I don't really like that (and I can't wait till my kids are old enough to help more) I still had a good time, because there was family who love me and appreciation for all my efforts to make it cozy.
In the evening we watched 2 feelgood movies together ('27 Dresses' and 'Trading Places'), just the 5 of us with the curtains closed and the Christmas lights on, and that was nice.
Whereas my own family won't even bother to make plans for Christmas. I asked my mom (who lives only 5 miles away from me and has her own car) to come for dinner or brunch, but she found it "too much of a bother" and would rather stay alone at home, same as my brother (who lives 15 miles away and has no family of his own). Only to find out now that my mom went to my sister (who lives 4 hours travel by train and bus away, so that means 8 hours travel in 1 day!) to celebrate Christmas, without even blinking her eyes. I guess "too much of a bother" is a relative concept for my mom when it comes to her children.
Bottomline: Christmas is about the people who want to celebrate it with you, and even if that means having to work hard in the kitchen and/or having to tolerate some family members being their usual obnoxious self (but only for more hours in a row than usual), then so be it.
In the end it's what you make of it for yourself, the people who matter to you and (in my case) your children, so they can have good Christmas memories to cherish later when they have a family of their own.

Thank you! Merry belated Christmas to you too!
I agree he is awesome. I also got two Criss Angel shirts for Christmas and I'm going to wear one when I see the show.
I didn't realize that Criss Angel was that well known in other countries (judging by ColferInspried and brisallie's posts). I just thought that he was only popular in the US.

Re: Bistro on the corner
Hope everyone had a great Christmas!
I'm back home, and while I'm happy about that, I'm also sad because I miss Nepal and the kids there. It was a really wonderful and meaningful trip and I learnt a lot. I didn't pack a camera because I wanted to travel light, but I took some pictures with my phone and I'll upload the good ones soon.
Now to catch up on everything I've missed.
It's also really hot here compared to Nepal's winter...I can't bear the heat.

Re: Bistro on the corner
Thanks girls
I did have a great time, our project was meaningful, we met some amazing people and kids, and the last few days were a vacation, so that allowed us to eat and shop a lot, plus we went paragliding!
I've uploaded some pics in the Pictures from a Distant Land thread. Be warned, I took them with my phone, but I think they turned out ok.

Still over 3 hours to go here: I baked 100(!) oliebollen (see below) and I already burned my thumb on a piece of fireworks, so New Year's Eve is off to a good start.
Have fun everyone, don't eat too much and I'll see you next year!
