he kinda bombed my country 15 years ago. that sort of thing creates resentment. also, he has a monument built in Pristina for "helping" Kosovo get it's "independence". as a self-respecting Serb i'm just not ok with that.

@tanita, I see. You know, after I made my question I suddenly remember the Kosovo War, and I had the feeling that was the reason you don't like them.

man, that pup is going to grow up fast. and retrievers/labs are super popular here. thanks to that Buddy, basketball dog "Air Bud" movie every kid wanted one.

I have a feeling Brian can handle Cooper just fine....

I would love a lab, but I have to wait until we find another place to live.

Golden Labs is a breed I love.   

Though a single pup costs $600, we can't afford to get one.

Even kittens are expensive raging from $100 to $200.

Though like the puppies they are all wormed, and have had their shots. Why, they cost so much.

We do have a Lost Dogs Homes, that house kittens and cats as well.

But still we could not afford to get a pup.

So, we'll just wait until we have enough money and find a place with a big yard.

I love the fact that both Brian and Copper came from shelters or rescues. I'm a big advocate of adoption vs buying because so many good dogs and cats have to be put down because there aren't enough homes for them. All of my pets have come through rescues or the local shelter and they are absolutely wonderful, amazing loving animals. I was actually very angry that my brother bought his dog (because he wanted a purebred puppy) rather than going through a rescue.

I've.actually never made it to a shelter, the animals usually just show up and suddenly they are mine. The neighbor cat who liked my closet better for having kittens never moved out. 11 years ago a neighbor moved, took the dog, but not the cat, she's here too. No longer alive, but one cat I got had jumped in the back of the van that delivered medications to nursing facilities over a 75 mile long route and jumped out when they reached my facility. No one answered the ad, so I kept him too. My only problem with a shelter is I will want to take home all of them. It would break my heart to leave their sweet faces behind. Plus I haven't been below 4 animals in my life,

^ i have been to a shelter once. i can never go back again. it's absolutely heart wrenching. that particular one will destroy them all if they are not adopted in a number of days. i never want to be an animal in my next life. the look in their eyes...

i also never bought any animal. like yours they some how ended up in my life. My current cat was begging my friend to be adopted. she already had 2 so she gave him to me. he's a wonderful baby and i never regret getting him. i wish i can help more but my cat doesn't like to share. he only wants his human hosts exclusively.

I always said that me and my cats found one another. When we adopted Freebee (who died about 5 years ago), she was a sick little kitten barely 8 weeks old. She was the runt of the litter, had a calicivirus infection that affected her eyes and mouth (she had severe oral ulcers that made it difficult for her to eat). The vet at the shelter wasn't sure she would make it but we took her home, gave her the treatments and she bounced back. I had her for 19 years before we lost her.

We had wanted to bring another cat into the house to keep Freebee company but she was very territorial and was a one-cat kind of a cat. After she died, we went to our local pound to see about adopting another cat and absolutely feel in love with this adorable black kitten (black cats in the US are very hard to get adopted because of the superstitions) and brought her home. We always said that Freebee knew that Luna was waiting for us and that we couldn't bring her home until she had passed so she left us in order to make room for Luna.

there used to be a black cat from the neighbor's house who visited us daily. she didn't like sharing her home w/ other cats so she decided to seek out a "greener pasture" at our place. we didn't have a cat then, so she was our cat during the day. her luscious black fur blended into the black leather chair so well that we often accidentally sat on her when she was napping on it. it was her favorite place to nap but also hubby's work chair. thank god he didn't turn her into a pancake. the poor thing was declawed but somehow she could still hunt.

NEVER declaw a cat! they have to remove the whole bone that the claws are attached to. just get some scratching post/pad or a piece of log and put double sided tapes on the furniture they used to scratch on, and the problem will be easily solved.

We've got scratching posts everywhere! Luna makes good use of all of them, as well as the trees in my yard when she's marking.

I'm actually getting tattooed tonight to memorialize Freebee (who I still miss terribly) and for Luna. I don't have children (nor did I ever want them) so my pets are my babies. Am not ashamed of that fact.

sometimes i think i love my cat babies a bit more than my human babies.   

i had one cat's name memorialized on my license plate. he was a very special cat and died more than 5 years ago.

My two cats are my babies.

I can't have children, but I have never missed having any.
