Cooper is a golden retriever and he's still a puppy. He'll get decidedly bigger. Male goldens weigh between 65-75 lbs (29-34 kg) and stand 23-24 in (58-61 cm) at the shoulders. Cooper is going to be a very decent sized dog when he's fully grown.

They're really great dogs known for their fantastic, easy going temperments and they love to be outdoors so it's a great dog for someone with Chris's lifestyle. He's going to have a lot of fun taking Cooper for long walks and runs.

I've always wanted a Golden Retriever, some of my friends have one and they are like the most loyal, easy going dogs ever.  Kids in particular seem to gravitate towards them.

Just beautiful dogs, inside and out.

Are Golden Retrievers and Labradors the same? Or just share similarities? I'd love to have one of them, but sadly I'm a small girl and I'm afraid I won't be able to manage them.

Ooooh...I also love Labs!

Different breeds but both have very high reps as loyal and easing going pets.  Labs and Golden Retrievers both always seem to be rescuing their owners or small kids from danger.

GRs have long hair. Labs have very short hair. they are both great dogs to have as pets.

Thanks for the explanation and pictures I've never interacted with a Golden, but as for Labs, they're puppies in the body of big dogs.

golden retrievers are "golden" - medium brown colored. labs may be tan, brown, black, etc. because of their shorter hair labs don't need to be brushed. the GRs must be brushed freqeuntly to prevent matting. they also shed like crazy. you may want to collect their fur into a big pile so you can knit sweaters w/ them.

My friend collected her golden's fur and her mother in law spun it into yarn. My friend then knit it into a scarf, unfortunately because either the shortness of the hairs or her golden's fur, the yarn was made up into a very itchy uncomfortable scarf. She gave it to me because she knows I have tough skin. I can't wear it either.

But goldens are usually very good temperamentwise, and because they were trained initially to be retrievers, they have gentle mouths.

wow, someone DID turn the fur balls into a knitted garment?    maybe that's why we don't breed golden retrievers like sheeps for their fur. you can always turn that "doggie scarf" into a doggie vest and give them to a short haired dog. A friend of mine has a tiny dog (forgot the breed but not a chiwawa) that's always shivering outside when it's cold. that kind of dog should definitely get a doggie vest when out. now a doggie vest made w/ actual doggie hair would be even better.

one great thing about all those "retriever" type of dogs is that they love to play fetch. you can throw anything out and they will bring it back, again and again. they should really be utilized on the golf course or tennis courts to pick up balls. i once had a husky, whose biggest instinct was to run (or escape, depending on how to see it). you can throw anything at her and she will never pick up or run back. she had to be leashed at all times outside or she would be a goner. it's fascinating how different breeds behave because they were initially bred for specific purposes.

Funny, maybe a short haired dog would find it just as irritating.

^ or not. anybody tried it?    well, if it's really that rough, perhaps you can turn it into a yarn ball for scrubbing dishes.
