Re: Chris Colfer Instagram
well yeah, but if it's set in new york, that is hardly the issue. but who will be in it. 70 years in the past eliminates about 95 % of the characters from the first 7 books, including harry and his generation, his parents and that generation, hell, even voldemort wasn't alive then. this could be a grindelwald and dumbledore story perhaps. having a whole new cast of characters without some familiar people to ground us in is a recepy for disaster imo. particularly given the fact that the whole harry potter saga is fresh in peoples minds. it's not like star trek, when tng came 20 years after tos was canceled.

Re: Chris Colfer Instagram
The movie I agree could be a disaster but at the same time it has a far better chance of being a commercial success than 99.99 percent of all movies being pitched to studios.
The intriguing thing is that Warner Brothers Studio gave J K Rowling carte blanche by giving her final say on her screenplay, so that the higher ups can't change things without her consent. No novice screenwriter has that power but she's not your typical first timer.
Even if the movie is terrible, the worldwide audience would most likely guarantee Warner would recoup their costs and make a profit.
Harry Potter is a franchise, so going forward with more movies doesn't surprise me.
Unfortunately Chris is committed to Glee at least through May 2015 if the show lasts 6 seasons as far as a possible role for him in this new Harry Potter universe movie.

Re: Chris Colfer Instagram
Actually Chris isn't so far of what HP might had been. I read that it weren't because JK Rowling said she wanted the movies with only british actors, WB was considering to hire American actors, to be more specific hollywood stars such as Robin Williams.bayth wrote:The only roadblock I can see is that Chris is an American. All the actors that have been in the Harry Potter movies have been British.
Re: Chris Colfer Instagram
if it happens in NY then most characters would be american. btw if it's about dumbledore isn't he gay according to the author? ok i am thinking too much.
i think chris just loves harry potter so anything related to it he would fanboy over.

^I may be wrong, but I thought the movie would be about the booklet JK Rowling wrote about the magical creatures (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them)?
I thought I heard some buzz about that, but as I said: I'm not sure.

^ It is about the author of Fantastic Beasts, set in NYC and correct me if I am wrong takes place during 30/40's??!
To be honest, major HP fan here, but I really don't care that much. I am too disappointed in the movies in general, I have low expectations.
But I bet a large number of HW stars basically send a message to Warner Brothers: Let me be a part!!! Including Chris, if given the chance

Re: Chris Colfer Instagram
you aren't a fan of the adaptations ??? interesting. you know, i was a massive harry potter hater. never red the books never so the movies until i was 16-17 yo. thought it was some childern's crap, particually compered to the epic of the lord of the rings that was out at the same time. then i found out that my all time favorite actor, alan rickman was in them and i said what the hack i'll rent potter 1 & 2 from my local VCR club (yeah, we still had VCR clubs back then). this was back in 2003 i think. i fell in love with those two movies (watched them 3-4 times each in a span of a weekend) and practically ran to my local library to rent the first 4 books (i think 4 were out at the time). so, while they may not be the most successful adaptations of all time (i think they are as good as they can get being 2 and a half hour films) they are still fantastic and they got me into the world of harry potter.Lottie2303 wrote:^ It is about the author of Fantastic Beasts, set in NYC and correct me if I am wrong takes place during 30/40's??!

Re: Chris Colfer Instagram
^ My little sister always laughed at me and said HP is for children. When I was in Australia for a year, I got a phonecall one day. "Lottie, I was bored... I started reading HP. THEY ARE SO FREAKING GOOD!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU EVER TELL ME!!! WHAT HAPPENS NEXT??! I STARTED TWO WEEKS AGO. I AM CURRENTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF BOOK4"
I think the movies are missing the most important component of the books: the humor, the familiarity and the pure joy to read about the wizarding world. It felt so real and I could have read 500 pages of the lessons, the everyday life and the normal, boring life. I really didn't need Voldemort, I could have followed Harry for 7 years without any war. I was always disappointed when the final battle started, as I knew Hogwarts is over. The movies are too much focused on all the action scenes and they disregard so much character development, plot, important (!!!) aspects to understand the overall story. Movie 6 for instance happily indulged all those action sequences, created even an entire attack on its own, and disregarded the most important part of the entire story: Voldemorts memories! That was in my opinion the biggest issue with the movies.

Re: Chris Colfer Instagram
^I agree.
I loved the first 2 movies, as they seemed honest, small and catching the feeling of the bewonderment of Harry in the books. But after that the quality of the other movies just gradually slipped and got worse because they were turned in 'Indiana Jones meets Percy Jackson' like roller coaster action movies.
After seeing the last movie (7B) I was actually angry when I left the cinema!
I think the movies are more enjoyable if you haven't read the books first (which goes for most book>movie adaptations, btw).

Re: Chris Colfer Instagram
well, that is the draw back when you are adapting a 500-600 page book into a 2 hour movie. honestly, harry potter would have made an amazing tv show (10-12 episodes per season, sort of like the game of thrones).
i agree about movie 6. half blood prince is my favorite book and they butchered one of the best parts of it - voldemort's backstory. i was recently rereading the books, and i forgot just how amazing chamber of secrets was. till half blood prince came out, goblet of fire was my favorite because it was such an epic action-adventure, but i've really come to admire the heavy character based ones the most. i find order of phoenix to be over-depressing and the deathly hollows have a good part of the book that i would just remove entirely or heavily edit (the trio on the run).

I hope he spent atleast a little bit of time into making sure he was allowed to do that and the chandelier would indeed stay attached to the ceiling. He has a weird need to hang on things.
