Lottie2303 wrote:Yup, that is true. At least no poor PR attempts. It is also shitty timing with during the week, midnight and good working citizens with no time/parents who refuse to let their children out late.
I'd really like to know the current numbers. I sincerely cannot grasp how few have shown up.
I am free tomorrow so all I have to do is wait for the Tardis. Everything else doesn't matter
Well, B&N just tweeted that we can still come on down, so any other New Yorkers . . . come on down . . .

Re: The Land of Stories 2 : Book Tour 2013
I wish B & N had started giving out those wristbands earlier, so people could have planned this better. If I had to take two days off from work, one for standing in line for a wristband and one for sleeping in, and I couldn't even be sure if I'd get a wristband at all judging by last year's chaos at the same book store, I probably wouldn't try in the first place either. His younger fans won't be allowed to stay up and away until the early morning, and his fans from farther away would have to book a hotel if they can't or don't want to travel in the middle of the night, in addition to taking two days off and not being sure to get in. So yeah...
Re: The Land of Stories 2 : Book Tour 2013
TBH, I think it's still too early to be worried about this. There are still several hours to go before the event, and even if not all wristbands are given out: we're talking about a recently announced midnight reading in the middle of the week, so 200+ is a good number, imo.
I wouldn't have allowed my teenage daughter to go to a midnight event in the middle of the week, nor would I, as her mom, have had the time and opportunity to be there with her (if I lived in NY, lol *sob*). And as most adults have to work and can't just take a day or even 2 days off on such short notice, it's only logical not 750+ people are standing in line since yesterday.
Maybe there are quite a few fans who had to work today (but are free tomorrow) and will go to B&N as soon as they are off the clock, or after they have grabbed a bite to eat first. It seems like @ranwing was planning on doing that.
And Chris will not be talking in front of an half empty room, as the event itself is limited to a few hundred seats. Maybe he'll notice that he doesn't have to sign books for 750 fans later, but considering he'll do interviews and another signing tomorrow and this midnight one is going to last till the wee little hours of the morning, I don't think he would mind that so much.

I just got this off of tumblr:

Lol, it seems that Heathermione posted almost the same thing:
Also, one of the comments under that post:
^And this is for the signing tomorrow, so people are lining up for that one a day in advance again.

They only have seats for 250 up in the area Chris will see, the rest are overflow seats in another part of the store because they weren’t sure how many people to expect. And it’s four hours from now. New Yorkers are spontaneous, y0.
Also, this event is at midnight. In the middle of the week. And it was announced a week ago. And the book is already out in many stores, including that one. Plus Chris has already done three signings in the area in the last year and has a fourth scheduled tomorrow night.
And even if “only" 200 people show up, that’s still a pretty successful author event by any standards lol.

The VIP part is full, and it appears more wristbands are being sold as someone saw someone wearing a 243 one.
And as there needs to be 250 as Heather from CCNews said, then I think it won't take long before all those seats will be filled.

Nice. I totally overreacted by freaking out a bit, and I am perfectly content to be proven wrong

I am sure that the upstairs will get filled up! I don't think--after being up until 4:30 AM yesterday (insomnia)--that I can bring myself to go out just to shake Chris's hand. I'm not really a big enough fan girl, I guess (last time I did anything fangirly was when I as 19!). (Except for when I extra'd with Victor Garber and got a picture with him, but that was just because he . . . well . . . was right there and talked to me).
I wish I could be on set with him, someday... too bad I'm pretty much not extraing now . . .

Some fans are liveblogging and apparently there is a sing along while they wait for Chris. At the moment they are singing "Don't Stop Believing".

Can’t believe how fast the signing went: home by 12:37. Wow. Granted I was in the 3rd row, but still unbelievably fast.
Chris was on fire tonight and I wish my new camera cooperated more (note to self: read manual). His q&a was the funniest one I’ve been to, and I’ve been to every NY event since NYer festival.
As always, he was so generous and attentive to every person. Such a class act!
We had a nice conversation and when I told him something in my life that related to the book, and told him how *right* he wrote it - so true to my experience - he blushed and looked so happy. So glad I could give that back to him.
It was a lovely 30 minutes in his presence: so glad I went!
