Re: Birthday Party!
The description of my tumblr account is basically: I am closer to 30 than 20. That is scary. It very well summarizes my thoughts/feelings about "aging"

Re: Birthday Party!
When I was slowly getting nearer to "closer to 40 than 30" territory I decided to not celebrate my birthday anymore, or at least keep it very low key, just a small celebration with my husband and kids.
And then my son was born on my 36th birthday.....
So now I'm stuck to celebrating my birthday again, as everyone gets reminded of it by my son (he's very proud of our mutual birthday, lol), although it's kinda nice to have themed children birthday parties again at 40+, with lots of silly games and candy.

^Lol, my son is so proud of it, as if he hand-picked that date to be born himself.
He sometimes calls himself "momma's birthday present" (whenever he wants to get something from me).

Re: Birthday Party!
after i reached my 40th birthday I stopped counting. seriously. now when i have to figure out my age (say fill out a form) I have to count from the year i was born and do a little math. honestly i don't miss tracking my age. it doesn't matter anymore. i just want to celebrate life and living. i don't want to remind myself that each year I am closer to the end of my run.

Re: Birthday Party!
^I've stopped counting too. Not so much out of vanity, but because I simply have a hard time remembering numbers and dates anyway.
They just don't register in the archive of my brain (whereas I can remember the lyrics of a trillion songs, go figure ). I always have to ask my husband how old I am or in what year something occurred, like when we went to a certain holiday destination.
Luckily I've always had that 'defect' (history exams were a disaster, and I'm even quite interested in history), so I don't have to blame it on my advancing age.

Re: Birthday Party!
Remembering my age is something that doesn't come easily to me either. When someone asks me about my age, I always have to do a mental calculation, deducting my year of birth from the current year. It tends to give people the impression that I'm lying about my age...

^Yes, I recognize that. Sometimes I say "I'm 44, oh no, wait, I'm 45.....I think, or am I 46 already? I don't know." And then people assume I'm lying.
(The fact that my online status now says "inner grandma" isn't helping with the little pang of pain when I wrote down my age. )

I once introduced myself for three straight month with the wrong age. I was sincerely convinced to be still a year younger. That was one big shock when I realized my mistake

That happens! For an entire year, you get used to being however many years old...it feels weird to identify as something different all of the sudden.

Re: Birthday Party!
^It's the same as having to remember the number of the new year after New Year's Eve. It takes a while.
Oh, he loves getting me presents, as long as daddy provides the cash and he doesn't have to empty his own piggy bank.MoviesAreLife wrote:Glorfindel wrote:^Lol, my son is so proud of it, as if he hand-picked that date to be born himself.

Re: Birthday Party!
Yeah, it takes the brain a little while to catch up to a new age or a new era.
Ha! Typical! Whenever you jokingly ask him if he got Mommy anything, I'll bet he's the type to grin and go: "But you have me!"

Don't worry, I think all people have made the same mistake once in their life (or more than once). Usually it happens to me few days later of my birthday, because I've to get used to the new age. lol
@Marie, I find so cute your son born on your birthday, what a beautiful gift . And although at this moment you've been 'forced' to celebrate together their day, probably in some years he will prefer to have a party by himself. Teenagers.

So, I know some people do not believe that Karyn Colfer's twitter account is real, but I'm pretty convinced. According to her, it is Hannah's 18th birthday today, so...Happy Birthday, Hannah!
