Spring Awakening is coming to Russia

Several years ago, Kirill Serebrennikov, a very well known avant garde director in Russia, asked me for suggestions of shows he could do with his then-students at Moscow Art Theatre School. I suggested Spring Awakening, and he's doing it! It premiered the other night in Moscow at the Gogol Center.

LOL, he doesn't like the censorship, I see . . .



I am curious about how he'll handle the new laws . . .

Kirill never does a carbon copy of any show. He's always original.

Translated into Russian. In the video, you can hear "touch me." This is the first I've heard of the translations. I hope that--as the show is performed more--more clips or even a video of the show (for the Kultura channel) will come out. I'm sure it's pushing the envelope in Russia right now, though. I'm not sure how he's managing to do it with the current political situation.
