I initially placed these 2 pics in the radio show thread because Chris was wearing hte same shirt. He must be doing these 2 one after another and not having the time to change.

Re: Apple Meet the Authors - July 19 2012
I arrived to the Apple Store for Chris’ Author Event at 6am, and had a great time in line talking to old friends and making new friends etc.
I was seated in the second row, right behind Alla and Chris’ other publicists (and can I say, I absolutely love how much they love him, you can absolutely tell that he’s more than just a client to them). Some things: when Chris took out his glasses for the reading, everyone got all excited and Alla heard and got a kick out of it, by now you all probably know about that guy and his stupid question about reviews, and the crowd’s and Chris’ publicists reactions to that so I’ll keep moving along, and lastly when Chris was answering the question about which character he was most like (or something to that extent, his answer had to do with The Evil Queen) as soon as the question was asked Alla immediately said Conner,
As for Chris, he was flawless of course, and I’m soo glad I got to be in that room and right there with him, <3 I’ll upload a couple of the good pics I have, but I didn’t really take much pictures because there were professional photographers there and Apple was recording the whole thing.

Re: Apple Meet the Authors - July 19 2012
I read that someone asked him about bad review or something but I don't know anything else either...
Speaking about reviews, I was too curious and I read a little bit in the TLOS spoiler thread few minutes ago, because I wanted to know at least something about your reaction on the book. I know Chris said that he didn't read reviews or fans responses (probably except for twitter) and I understand him. On the other hand I think if he knew the mistakes he makes it could only make him a better writer...

Well, I went throw about 5 chapters, because I'm in a middle of a move and I'm gonna be without my PC either less of a day or a few days. The story itself is great. I love fantasy and fairy tales, so I'm totally sold there. The only problems are in the technical aspects of the book. Chris isn't a polished writer yet, needs improvement but there is room for it so that is a good thing. Also, he is a bit weak on the descriptive side for my taste (I'm no Tolkien or Russian Classics style fan - love them all but they are far too long-winded, but he needs more work on that aspect as well). The vision is great, but the execution needs a bit more twicking. On the whole, IMO, this is a successful first book. He should be very proud.

Re: Apple Meet the Authors - July 19 2012
I think 4 yrs of college major in english literature may help him polish the technical aspect of the writing (or by lots of practice on his own w/ good teachers/editors giving him some directions).
on the other hand, the simple language of hte book is great for kids, and is very easy to read for me, because english is not my first language. I cannot even finish one chapter of Lord of the Rings because the language issue. I think I am stuck reading children's books...

I agree. Practice and work makes perfect as they say. If he works on his writing style it can evolve into a thing of beauty. But also, as I pointed in another tread and you Kim here, this style that he chose here (rather simple and modern) works well for his target audience - which are kids (8-12 yo) if I'm not mistaken. English isn't my first language either, but I'm rather fluent in it. My spelling is my weakens point when it comes to English. I don't want to brag , but I can read pretty much any book or watch any movie/tv show without the need of subtitles or translation to understand 100 %. (technical speak can be a bit trying, but not that much).fantastica wrote:I think 4 yrs of college major in english literature may help him polish the technical aspect of the writing (or by lots of practice on his own w/ good teachers/editors giving him some directions).

To this day, I regret not majoring in English or some other language, then in economic (for which I'm sadly not naturally gifted). But, job security (which the latter offers far more) is too important in these unstable times (even though Serbia has been unstable since I was born).

That's good Tanita!!!
Though I've studied english since high school, sometimes still I need subtitles because is difficult for me to catch some accents, because they're so stick or simply the actor doesn't modulate very well.
Re: Apple Meet the Authors - July 19 2012
I am absolutely terrible in languages. I had german in school for ten years and I am definitely not kidding when I say I am not able to understand any word or create one sentence. it's much better with english, but still very terrible. I can read easy text, but nothing difficult. I need subtitles for movies and tv shows because I understand every tenth word. Well and myself and the grammar are enemies as well. :-)

idk, grammar comes rather easily to me. people learn rules for it, but i never needed to. i just sort of instinctively knew which tense or form to use and am almost always right. spelling on the other hand - my achilles heal. my posts would be horrendous without spell check. i'm never going to get the way english worlds are spelled. as far as i'm concerned, it's just wrong, but unfortunately the rest of the world disagrees.

^ haha, you can't rely on spell check sometimes. for example, "english WORLD" is wrong (should be "word") but the spell checker won't pick it up.
