Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
I love mixed colored cats, especially when the patterns are not "organized". That black-brown-yellow combo is just so facinating.

My kitty is a calico cat. I know what you mean, the multi colors are beautiful.

So pretty. How old is he (or she?)?

I've a friend whose cat is mixed colored and she's so obssessed with it, that she wants her cat's children to have the same pattern. That why she wants him to interbreed with a female cat chosen by her.

No, I didn't. I just spelled it weird.
Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
i snapped some really wacky pictures of my cat sleeping yesterday, but somehow my pc won't recognize my phone. i will try to find a way to download these pics and post them here. stay tuned.
oh, my cat also got ring worm (it's not a worm, but fungus). we've been using the meds. seem to be spreading to new areas. I am not happy about that. what did chris say about brian getting ring worms? i forgot. none of my previous cats had it.

^ Be careful not to get infected with ring worm yourself. Those things can be contagious. When I was a kid, I contracted ringworm from my cat (Thanks to my tendency to cuddle my pets).

I brought my cat (a Siberian, a breed which is hypoallergenic--really!) back from Russia, where I was studying. Who could say no to this face?
His breeder kept him while I was home in the US for the summer, and when I picked him up he was about 8 months old:
"Yum! I love it!" says the TV catfood commercial.
He was a beauty then.
And remains so now.

your kitty is so beautiful. siberians are big and gorgous. unfortunately my mission is to save the un-wanted so the chance of me getting a siberian is almost none.
here's My Precious taking a precious nap on the sofa. Look how comfy he is!

SO cute. I love how kitties stretch out.
My Siberian is actually quite petite (10.5 pounds, and he's a boy). His breeder in Russia explained to me (and boy was it comic with my basic Russian to have these conversations about rabies, vaccinations, breed standards, etc) that she disagreed with the new breed standard to make Siberians very very large. She and her sister were two of the early breeders (Ashtau cattery).
I want my mission to be to rescue homeless cats. I grew up on a farm, and so we cared for the dumped kitties of all sorts of people (once we came home to find a kitten crying, terrified, because someone had pulled over and put it on the top of a fencepost by our yard and it didn't know how to get down). My job was catching feral kittens and taming them. Mom's was to trap feral adults and fix them and get them shots before we brought them home to feed for the rest of their lives.
But I'm allergic to cats, so since I've been apartment-dwelling, I haven't been able to have one. It was a miracle to be in Russia and find out about Siberians not producing the allergen that most people react to.
Interestingly, my mom has a rescue cat who is a regular street-tabby, and I don't react to her (at least while I take my daily allegra). If only I could figure out WHICH cats-in-need-of-rescue I could live with, I'd happily adopt one.
But I also lived with a cat who I was so allergic to I got bronchitis and had to break my lease. And he didn't even come into my room.

Thank you! He is also very expressive, much like Chris!
This is him catching sight of my mom's standard poodle, who was standing behind me. Myshkin does not care for dogs. They are beneath him.

cats have very subtle expressions. only a cat person can see the difference. cat people really pay attention to what their masters want so we are very attentive to their expressions. i often communicate w/ my cat visually. sometimes that's all it's needed.

Yes, he is. He's a Siberian (semi-longhair) grey tabby. You can always see it on his face, but the amount of undercoat vs. overcoat on his body (ie season) can disguise it.

It's true. My mom has owned and liked cats for years, but she isn't as in-tune to their expressions as I am. I think growing up taming kittens on the farm helped--I'd spend hours working on flighty cats. Hubby and I also listen to Myshkin's meows and his expressions and perform his dialogue for him. Often his meows sound distinctly like words.
Mom cuddles with her cat and loves her a lot, but she doesn't focus on the tiny things (eye blinks=affection), etc.

When a cat winks at you, what does it mean?

it means he/she trusts you. if you wink at him/her, he/she will wink back.

Some people call them "cat kisses" which is really, really sweet. Almost sugary.
