Glee star Chris Colfer has been on sold-out arena tours before, but come July, he’ll be embarking on a different kind of tour altogether. To promote his upcoming children’s book The Land of Stories (July 17), he’ll be giving book signings across the country, mostly in the New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco areas, as well as in Kurt Hummel’s home state of Ohio.

Described as a “modern-day fairy tale,” the book will focus on twins Alex and Conner, who leave the real world behind and find themselves in a land where they come face-to-face with the fairy-tale characters — witches, goblins, trolls — they’ve always read about.

^ Oh, if only. July is pretty early to start filming again, though, isn't it?

I don't know if this is an appropriate question to ask, but how common is it for signed books to be sold along? I really, really want to get my hands on a signed book -- and people usually ask for their names, right? -- but is there a precedent or even a small hope? Just ignore me if this question is out of line!

Maybe they have actually planed ahead this time and will be filming a lot in advance. My God, if that is true, no wonder people are predicting the end of the world.

I moved to Utah from Ohio, so the majority of my relatives (grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins) all live in CINCINNATI and DAYTON Ohio!!!!!!!!!

^I'm actually going to Ohio next year, I'd be there if only this book tour was during the school year (though I'll be at Oberlin which is closest to Cleveland I think).

It is sort of odd, I would have predicted those before the midwestern stops. And I was hoping for Boston.

Happy to say I'll probably still be able to get to the New Jersey or New York one though. neutre

My main concern is with only one NYC date that will probably make for a very long line.

if your birthday is coming up soon, tell them you want that signed book as a bday present! and even if it's many months later, tell them you want that for it so by the time of your bday they don't have to give you anything else.

Sometimes the smaller book chains will let you order them and they will ship them to you when they are doing a reading, but I don't know if they will ship to the Netherlands.

I'm kind of surprised that they are focusing on several places in Illinois and Ohio. My guess is that they did it to keep him from having to fly all over the place to get from one signing to the next. Dayton is only an hour and fifteen minutes from Columbus, and Skokie is only 25 minutes from Chicago. Seems like they are just going to attact the same people to the readings, though.

They probably don't want to overbook him in NY so they can get him on some talk shows.

If people are going, make sure you find out how the bookstore is doing it in advance. I was looking online today, and some of the bookstores require that you pre-purchase the book to get a spot in the line.

^ call the bookstore to see if they can ship overseas (assume you will pick up the shipping fee). but for those who cannot order the book otherwise this will be a great opportunity.

tonight they are open? make sure you call during biz hours. even if they say they don't ship international, tell them you will pay teh shipping - talking to real people allow you to negotiate, unlike those draconian web ordering systems.
