Re: The Land of Stories Main Thread
Someone on tumblr got the advanced copy:
"Almost halfway through The Land of Stories. Chris is so witty with everything he wrote. I’m finally getting to the juicy part of the story :3 I cannot get over how excited I am for everyone to read this."
The person's sister works for Hachette.
Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE SIZE OF THE FONT? IS IT 483 PAGES OF LIKE…HARRY POTTER SIZED TEXT, OR 483 PAGES OF LARGE FONT TEXT. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
A: Errrrr… It’s about the same size as the paperback HP and the Sorcerer’s Stone book and same font size.
Q: ANONYMOUS SAID TO ME, DOES THE BOOK REALLY HAVE 438 PAGES? IT WAS PREVIOUSLY LISTED AS 304, THEN IT WAS RECENTLY CHANGED TO 448 SO I'M A BIT CONFUSED ON HOW MANY PAGES THEY ADDED. THANK YOU.
A: Yepp 438!

You're not alone there, my friend. It's almost the same feeling I got from reading reviews of SBL by fans on tumblr who were fortunate enough to watch the advanced screening of the movie.
For me, getting to read the book would be great; but getting to hear the audiobook would be awesome! I wonder if Chris had finished recording it yet? How many hours does it take for someone to read out a 483-page book?
The review of LOS by the privileged person who works in publishing looks promising. Once again, I have to fight the rising expectation so that I could still enjoy the book when I read it myself in the future.

Thanks for answering my question
For those of you who have read books and listened to audiobooks before... If given the choice, would it be better to read the book first and then listen to the audiobook, or is it better to just listen to the audiobook and forget about reading the book?

Usually I'd say to read it yourself first, but I think in this case knowing Chris as a performer and that he is the author, it could be more enjoyable to hear Chris read it first. That's what I'm planning on doing anyways.
OT: If you are a Harry Potter fan, you should listen to the audio books. The guy who read them is amazing.
Re: The Land of Stories Main Thread
Steven Fry reading HP audio books is phenomenal. It's not just that he does a lot of different voices, but he is a great voice ACTOR, not just someone who reads and imitates.
I'm listening to Order of the Phoenix right now actually. Have been going through them the last few months. I was reminded just how much I loved Goblet of Fire the first time I red it and why it's my No.2 (Half-Blood Prince is still my favorite), and how good Chamber of Secrets really is - it was so vague in my memory before - and Steven Fry sounds exactly like Kenneth Branagh in the movie - it's hilarious. Actually all the novels that heavily rely on memories are my favorite. The Order is just too damn long - a third of it is before Hogwarts even starts, and the Deathly Hallows would probably be my favorite if it wasn't for that first half of the book which I found genuinely boring.

What about breathing? Because it must be exhausting read for so many hours. And LoS have over 400 pages??? GREAT.

awww... I really feel bad that some fans w/ ac wants to spill the juice. it's not fair. I hate to see that boy's heart being broken when his books and movies he worked so hard to make get spoiled or illegally downloaded so much. I hope all of his fans will respect him a bit, and if not, please have pity on him.
p.s. pity on this boy? I am talking about a boy who at the age of 21 had done more than most peopel twice his age have done (including yours truely)...

SHE resents that.
brisallie, do you know how to use torrents ?
Because if you do, here is a link to all 7 books read by Steven Fry that is 1.68 GB big (that is not a lot actually - medium sized quality, because I have a downloaded version that I burned on a DVD that is about 4 GB). I think the seeding is very good given that I download the last 3 books for listening week ago and it was my max speed.
http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/5455008
If not, PM me so I can find download links online and send you.

Re: The Land of Stories Main Thread
When you're completely passionate about what you're reading, it happens. I've finished novels with a single reading that lasts a whole night. It won't happen with TLOS though, if I read it in english.brisallie wrote:dap1217 wrote:Delight wrote: How many hours does it take for someone to read out a 483-page book?

Re: The Land of Stories Main Thread
When the 7th book of Harry Potter came out I finished it in a day and read all through the night, working the next day on a sleep deprivation high.
I didn't take it with me to the toilet though.....

If people end up posting spoilers for the book here, remember to use spoiler tags.
Out of respect for Chris, if scans or downloads of this book come out in advance of the book's release date, let's not post them here. Chris worked too hard this, and I woulld like for us to respect that by not linking to the advance materials if they come out unofficially.
Re: The Land of Stories Main Thread
I will not copy spoilers from other sources before the release date, even under the spoiler tag. I dont feel ethical for doing that.
It's one thing to spoiler Glee which is not written by CC. It's another to spoiler hte whole reading enjoyment of CC's solo work.

as a owner/manager of a bookstore she obviously has read enough books. for her to praise Chris for his writing speaks a lot more than some 12 yr old fan girl who never reads anything else. I feel very encouraged.

Re: The Land of Stories Main Thread
I am jealous that people are getting advance copies.
I hope no-one spoils it. They should keep all the spoilers to themselves and allow other readers to read it when it comes out.
I still haven't ordered mine yet. I should be ordering it on Monday, hopefully as I will be going to the city and my housemate doesn't backtrack and we end up in another part of the city were they don't have the bookshop where I can pre-order LOS.
I will be getting the book first and the audio book later for my housemate. He never gets through any book and thinks he would prefer to hear it instead. This will be my birthday present for him.
