Chris Colfer in the Austin, Texas book signing. I am in the second set of pictures. He was so sweet. I gave him a picture I took of him at the last book signing and a painting I made for him.

I went to TLOS4 book signing in Austin tonight and wow he was such a delight. He’s beautiful and engaging, but the cutest thing ever was the kids who came to see him.

I MET CHRIS COLFER AGAIN AND HE IS STILL BEAUTIFUL Me: Hi! My names Mackenzie, I was wondering who your favorite Orange Is The New Black character? Chris: Oooh, I love Crazy Eyes, but I also love Red. But I’m kind of behind, im only like half way through season 2. Me: Uh, oh my god. Chris: I know, I know! Me: Thank you. Chris: You’re welcome. Thank you for coming!

Not the best shots, but still. :D
Anyway, he’s a cutie pie in every way. When I got up there, I asked him a writing question, not anything terribly exciting. But I asked him if there was any part of the writing process that he doesn’t like or hates. He hates writing the first draft.
It was quick and short, but I think it was still worth the 3-hour drive to meet him.

Our conversation with Chris Colfer - Austin book signing
Our conversation with Chris Colfer - Austin book signing
- Me:Hi! It's so nice to meet you!
- Chris:Hi!
- Katie (daughter):My mom is obsessed with you!
- Me:She benefits from that obsession! (Chris and Alla both laugh!)
- Katie:She makes us watch glee every night!
- Chris:Not every night?!
- Katie:Oh, you think I'm joking? If only I was! (Chris and Alla laugh again!!)
- Me:Thank you for writing these. I'm going to add them to my classroom library!
- Chris:What do you teach?
- Me:Discoveries...It's enrichment for high achieving kids.
- Chris:Oh! That's great!
- Me:Thank you very much!
- Chris:Thank you! (Couldn't remember exactly what he said at the end)
- Katie:Ok! Bye!

Just got home...
from Chris’ book signing in Austin. I’m so glad we went, even though it took forever to get there (there’s no fast way in or out of Austin at rush hour). The book store was beautiful, but packed. It really wasn’t set up to handle a crowd that size, and neither I nor my kids could see Chris as he spoke, but that’s our fault for not being able to arrive earlier.
Chris was perfection though. You can really tell how much he loves meeting his fans like this. His chapter reading was amazing, and he was just animated and cute. We were fortunately in the first group for the signing, and I although it went fast I was able to tell him how much he’s meant to our family, which he thanked me for and I knew it was sincere. Unfortunately I was only able to get one blurry photo of my kids at the table before they were done, but he thanked them for wearing their First Book TLOS t-shirts. I think they were a little star struck and tongue tied, but they were happy to get to meet him too.
Anyway, meeting him just solidified how much I adore him and I’m so proud to be a fan .

Thanks! It was such a blur. I honestly don't know how people remember what they say to him and what he says back. My mind went almost blank standing in front of him, and I barely got out what I wanted to say. But he was so sweet, and of course gorgeous. I mean wow!
I was standing near some people at the reading who actually didn't know much about him. Chris is such an enthusiastic presence in a room, a total ray of sunshine, and really knows how to entertain a crowd. One of the people near me whispered something like "he's really fun, isn't he" to their friend. Another young man near me asked someone if Chris had a boyfriend, and the person next to him told him about Will. The young man's response was a deflated "damn". Chris is definitely winning new fans .

^Thanks for sharing that. It's always so nice to hear about fans of the books who were not originally Glee fans.
I'm so happy for you that you and your kids got to meet Chris. Something to cherish.

Thank you! If we get the opportunity to do it again sometime, I will definitely show up about six hours earlier, so I can actually see him when he speaks. I severely underestimated the amount of people who would be there, but that's a good thing too. He's a very popular young man
Austin is a fun city, and fairly liberal for being stuck in the middle of Texas. I'm glad they got out to enjoy it a bit .

^When you think about that young man in the crowd wanting to know if Chris had a boyfriend I'd say Austin is liberal too.

My impression is that Austin Tx is the only liberal city in Texas. It's very academic and advanced in high tech.

Yup, it's a big college and music scene city. I loved visiting Austin (and they have fantasic barbecue!)
Most cities even in conservative states tend to be more liberal/tolerant when they are college towns (other than evangelical christian institutions) but yea, it's fair to say Austin is as liberal as Texas gets.
