Since there are more and more interviews coming out in the past 2 days already, on tv-show, written articles and radio, I thought it might be wise to put them all together in one thread.
There's been quite a few interviews already:

Chris on the Today Show:

Chris on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon:

(bad quality, but the whole interview minus the ab fab movie clip)

(not the whole interview, but the biggest part of it, and in HQ)

Golden Globe winner and best-selling author Chris Colfer kicks off his latest book tour on Tuesday to celebrate the release of The Land of Stories: An Author’s Odyssey, the penultimate installment in his fairy tale series. The tour is set to include brand new activities for readers, including costume and trivia contests, making its first stop in New York City.

Before setting out on his author’s odyssey, Colfer chatted with EW about all things Land of Stories – from his dream Harry Potter crossover to the inclusion of LGBT fairy tale characters to the upcoming sixth and final book. He also touched on his post-Glee acting projects, including an update on the Noel Coward biopic, his upcoming role in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, and if he’d ever reunite with former Glee boss Ryan Murphy on Scream Queens or American Horror Story.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Congratulations on the new book and the tour. Is there a memorable moment you had during the last tour?
It’s hard to pick just one because everything can be really memorable. But there’s nothing like having a 10-year-old come up to you and talk to you about your characters as if they’re real people. I get really giddy whenever a little kid tells me, “Please tell this character I said hello,” or, “Tell this character I think they’re a bad person.” It’s really wonderful to see that excitement in their eyes.

So what can readers expect from the new book, An Author’s Odyssey?
This story is about a writer who gets to meet his own characters and see the environment come to life that had only existed in his imagination prior. It’s kind of based on my experience as a screenwriter. When you write something on the page, the next thing you know, it’s living and breathing in front of you. I thought that would be a fun element to bring to the series.

If you could enter your own Land of Stories, what would you say to your main characters, Alex and Conner?
Oh, gosh, I would just apologize to them for making their lives so complicated.

You’ve delved into so many different fairy tale lands – Oz, Wonderland, Neverland. Say you had the rights to any fantasy world, are there any you’d have your characters visit?
I would love for Alex and Conner to meet Harry Potter, but I’m sure I would get sued from here to Timbuktu, so I won’t even attempt to do that. But it’s nice because those classic stories like The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland really, unfortunately, aren’t quite as known with this new generation of kids. With more recent adaptations, the morals and the traditional stories have kind of gotten lost. It’s really wonderful as an author to introduce a new generation to those stories.

So after An Author’s Odyssey, you have a sixth Land of Stories book coming next year. Is there an end in sight, an endgame you’re headed towards?
Yes, number six will be the final one in the series. But I still have a lot of spin-offs of the series coming out. This October, The Land of Stories: Treasury of Classic Fairy Tales and Rhymes comes out. I have another picture book called Trollbella Throws a Party coming out, and then I’ll have a graphic novel based on the character of Goldilocks coming out.

Any news on The Land of Stories being adapted into a film?
Yeah, I’ve really changed my mind over the years. When I published the first book, that was the most asked question: would you ever see this as a film? And I would say, “No, I really want this to be a book.” But when 6-year-olds come up to you with these huge, teary eyes, and they beg you to do a movie, who am I to deny them of that? [Laughs] So I’ve been taking a lot of meetings and I was hoping to have a little more of an announcement to make with this book, but I’m definitely not going to rush things. But it’s closer now than it has ever been.

Would you be in it?
[Laughs] I think that would be very vain of me, to write a book series and be in the film. That’s not something I necessarily want, but the fans have made it known that they really want me to play the character Froggy. So we’ll see – that might be a fight I lose.

One of your companion books, The Mother Goose Diaries, touched on LGBT rights, with the character marching for marriage equality. How important do you think it is to incorporate LGBT themes into children’s literature?
In that book in particular, I just really wanted to show her fighting for women’s rights and suffrage, walking with Martin Luther King Jr., and standing with LGBT people fighting for marriage equality. It was important for me to show these different battles in history and to show how much progress we’ve made as a country, but how there’s still so much progress to go. We’re getting into an election season and people are being overly political everywhere. And I have to say, I don’t think you change the world by persuading an older generation, you change the world by educating the new generation.

Will we see LGBT characters in The Land of Stories?
There already are LGBT characters in The Land of Stories. I guess I just haven’t made their orientation a part of the plot yet.

Acting wise, what’s going on with the Noel Coward biopic [directed by Joe Stephenson]? Is that still happening?
Yes. Unfortunately, we were so, so close for it to happen – I was planning on shooting it by the end of the year, but Brexit kind of complicated things with financing. It’ll probably be a little bit longer before it gets made, but I really, really hope it gets made. It’s very rare that a role like that comes to a young actor, especially to a young, gay actor. I’m really hopeful that the stars align and it happens.

Can you tell me about your role in the upcoming Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (out July 22)? How did that come about?
I play Jennifer Saunders’s character’s hairdresser/social media consultant. It could’ve been my Make-a-Wish, it really could’ve. I love the show so much and was so touched that Jennifer wrote me a part and included me in it. I think the movie is fantastic, I think people are going to love it. If they’re fans of the show, they’re gonna freak out over it – just like I did – because it’s so damn funny.

You worked with Ryan Murphy on Glee, so will we ever see you on American Horror Story or Scream Queens?
I’m not sure. I don’t really like the sight of blood, so probably not. [Laughs] I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to that.

Lastly, but most important, how are your cat and dog getting along?
[Laughs] They’re good. They both had to be put on diets, so the house has been a little tense. Brian [his cat] is down a couple ounces, and Cooper [his dog] is down a couple pounds. They’re much healthier. People always tell me I should do Instagram [accounts] for my cat and my dog, but then I’m like, “What would I Instagram?”

TFK talks to Chris Colfer, author of The Land of Stories: An Author’s Odyssey

BRIAN BOWEN SMITH/FOX; LITTLE BROWN BOOKS FOR YOUNG READERS

Chris Colfer is a man of many talents. He sings, acts, and writes a wildly successful book series, The Land of Stories. Book 5 hits bookstores today. Though he vowed not to reveal any secrets, Colfer talked to TFK about The Land of Stories: An Author’s Odyssey and his inspiration for its fantastic fairy-tale world.

TFK:
How do you keep getting new ideas for books in this series?
CHRIS COLFER:
I’m so lucky, because the ideas for the books have always really been with me. I came up with most of the ideas for the series when I was a kid. Whenever I get something new; the things I see on the street—anything from statues to buildings; anything that I read—all these inspire me. I get inspired a lot by history too.

TFK:
How long does it typically take you to write a book? What’s the process like?
COLFER:
I wrote most of the books while I was filming the TV show Glee, so I didn’t have much free time. I would try to write as much as possible with the very little time I had. If I added up all the spare hours—here and there and weekends and an hour or two after work at the end of the day—I probably wrote each book in about two to three months. I wish I had more of a process than I do. I like to outline everything chapter by chapter, and then I let the characters in my head do all the talking.

TFK:
Do you reread the fairy tales that the characters come from?
COLFER:
I do. I read a lot of fairy tales before I put them in the book. Usually I look for funny quirks that could make an interesting personality for the characters before I put them in the book. We look for things that can be funny, because we know that kids will like that kind of stuff.

TFK:
Do you decide what the cover will look like?
COLFER:
I do. With the start of each new book, I draw exactly what I want the cover to look like. I use little stick figures because I am not a very good illustrator. Once I’m done, I send it to the illustrator, Brandon Dorman, and he makes it into a beautiful, wonderful cover.

TFK:
In all the books, there’s a quest. What’s An Author’s Odyssey going to be like?
COLFER:
An Author’s Odyssey is an adventure that Connor and Alex take through Connor’s imagination. They get to go inside the stories that Connor has written, and he gets to meet all the characters he created and see all the worlds he made up. Actually, the stories that Connor’s going to travel into were some of the first stories I wrote when I was a really little kid.

TFK:
What does it feel like to have a lot of fans?
COLFER:
It’s the best! The best part of being an author is when kids come up to you and talk to you as if the characters are real.

TFK:
Do you have advice for kids who want to be authors?
COLFER:
If you want to be a children’s author, remember what kinds of stories you like to read and what kinds of stories entertain you. That will be the best way to write for kids later, when you’re an old man like me.

OnlyOnAOL: Chris Colfer wants to dine with this famous actress.

By: Donna Freydkin

These days, when you Google Chris Colfer, his books are the first thing that come up.
And the children's lit scribe, now on his fifth installment of "The Land of Stories" series, couldn't be prouder.

"It used to be all about 'Glee.' Now it's all kids, running up to me and telling me how much they love the books and what they want to happen. Sometimes they have really good points," he says.

Colfer, of course, pitched himself into the public consciousness with his Emmy-nominated, Golden Globe-winning turn as the openly-gay singer Kurt Hummel on the Fox hit "Glee." Now, aside from a turn in the "Absolutely Fabulous" movie, he's focused on his book series. "I was really worried that the crowds would dissipate when the show ended. They've only grown and grown," he says.

TLoS5 - promo and press Aweb-NGN_8412-2

TLoS5 - promo and press Aweb-NGN_8407-2

TLoS5 - promo and press Aweb-NGN_8397-2

And he's justifiably proud of creating what this writer called a kids' literature empire. "Thank you for using those words. It's been wonderful. They sold over two million copies. If my books were albums, they'd be double-platinum," says Colfer.

Acting is still one of his jobs, but more on the sidelines at the moment. "If something great comes along, fantastic. I still make it a priority. But books are my number one priority right now," he says. "It's storytelling. Acting and writing are two different forms of storytelling. We're addicted to helping people escape their day to day life."

TLoS5 - promo and press 9ad11eebfcaf36c3558b8071c6e94ad4

So let's say that Colfer, given his audience, threw a pizza party. He already has a guest list in mind.
"J.K. Rowling. Eva Ibbotson, who has passed away," says Colfer, referring to the author of "Journey to the River Sea."
"Carrie Fisher and (her dog) Gary Fisher, of course. I'd do the brothers Grimm and I'd do Shakespeare. I'd do it someplace low-key where we could wear sweats, like my house," he says.

Speaking of his home, it's where he does his writing. "On whatever surface my cat isn't laying on. I have so many pictures of him glaring at me because I'm petting the computer and not him. I say that a lot: 'Daddy can't pet right now.' My cat's name is Brian. He's the cat. I'm his staff," says Colfer.

We can relate.

Fairy-tale book tour brings Glee star Chris Colfer to Bexley

The show that made him famous has ended, but Chris Colfer has successfully moved on.
Millions of fans know him from his portrayal of Kurt Hummel on the TV series “Glee” — a role for which he earned a Golden Globe Award and two Emmy nominations.
By the time “Glee” concluded its six-year run in March 2015, though, Colfer had written and directed a film, and published a book series that landed him on the New York Times best-seller list.
The “Land of Stories” series, designed for ages 8 to 12, is based on his childhood obsession with fairy tales.
The fifth book, “An Author’s Odyssey,” was released Tuesday.
Colfer, 26, spoke ahead of an appearance tonight at Bexley High School.
Q: Do you enjoy book tours?
A: They can be very grueling, but I genuinely enjoy it. There is absolutely nothing like having a 6-year-old talk to you about your characters as if they are real people.
And they always shower me with artwork and drawings. I’m such a hoarder; I have a room in my house filled with binders of artwork. My assistant is frustrated with me that I keep it all, but it warms my heart.

The next Harry Potter? Glee star Chris Colfer’s fantasy series is really taking off

Glee fans across the world will know the face of Chris Colfer from his role as Kurt Hummel in the hit musical series Glee – but despite maintaining a love of acting, the star could soon be more famous for his other art form.
The actor has just released the fifth installment of his hugely popular fantasy novel series, The Land Of Stories and if you are yet to come across the books, now might be the time to get involved given their increasing popularity.
A self confessed Harry Potter fan, could Chris’ work see him become the next J.K. Rowling? Fans are already ridiculously thrilled at the prospect of the fifth novel and beyond.
The Land Of Stories follows twins Alex and Connor Bailey as they enter another world full of fairytale characters and locations. As the series progresses, the worlds expand to introduce characters from other stories and the latest book also introduces Alex and Connor to characters they have themselves created.
While aimed at children, the popularity of the series, which made it onto the New York Times bestseller list, means that it is enjoyed by far more than kids and fans of Glee.
25-year-old Chris also had a role in the recent Absolutely Fabulous movie and won awards including a Golden Globe for his portrayal as sensitive singer Kurt in Glee.
The Land Of Stories: An Author’s Odyssey is now available to buy in the UK at all major bookshops. Here is a link to the Amazon page.
