Kurt Hummel Snark & Bark Thread--Part 5 Empty Kurt Hummel Snark & Bark Thread--Part 5

Post  Buenos 8/14/2012, 8:41 pm

Most current pop songs sell well if not better then showtunes and older tunes , Naya sold shit the first 2 years but they tripled her song output (sleeping with a writer helps) in season 3, gave her some good songs in the context of the story and then Shocker! She sold much better. One of the biggest myths is that Lea, Darren, Naya, Amber sell well regardless of song and context.

Cory Monteith has sold very well with some songs all 3 seasons and yet he got overlooked also in season 3 at times, as well as Kevin and Chris. When the show gives them good contemporary pop songs(we are Young, Moves like Jaegar, Perfect) they sell well.

Great discussion today. It's almost ashame it's on snark and bark.

Anyways, I agree with most of everyone's analysis of the cast members talent level of the cast.

One of the big problems with Glee is that that they do too much fan service, and push actors into a bigger role than they have the talent to handle, and match them with actors who are more talented than them. Of course, Heather is the best example of this. Half the time, you can't even understand what she says (I rewind to listen to her lines again more than any other actor on any show). She was fine when she had the random one liners, but the writers hands are tied with how they can proceed with Brittania because Heather doesn't have the ability to handle the dramatic stuff.

Darren is another example of this. He has a decent voice when he is singing stuff within his wheelhouse, but is week when he is outside of it (i.e. the WSS stuff). He does make up for the weaknesses in his talent when he's doing a musical number by his performance--what he excels at is flirting with the camera/audience during a musical number and making expressions and flirty faces that catch people's attention.

But when he is the focus of the scene (even opposite Chris), his expressions and line delivery seem a bit off to me most of the time. His expressions and body language often seem unnatural and forced to me (I'm talking about stuff like the weird head shaking stuff during the Ben scene or some smiles at strange moments like the scene in Sue's office in the Christmas episode). Often, when I'm watching Darren, I can almost see him digging through his brain for something that he learned in his Acting 101 classes. And it's very noticable when he is paired up with actors who are far more gifted than he is like Chris, Lea, or Grant. I enjoy Darren a lot more in stuff like the Bros scene when he gets a line or two as part of a group than I do when they try to put him in the forefront. Darren comes across as a passable actor because Chris pulls him through the scenes. His stuff opposite Grant and Matt Bomer fell flat because he didn't really have chemistry with them, nor could they carry him the way Chris could.

Even though Jenna is one of the weakest actors on the show, she doesn't really grate on people the way Darren, Heather, or Damien did because they don't they use her correctly. She is there to support the main character, not be one of the main focuses. They don't try to make her something that she is not.

I have to say that with Darren, a good part of his popularity stems from the song selction. His first two songs were two recent chart toppers that would appeal to a younger age group (who are also more likely to by songs on iTunes). If he had started off with songs like "Something Coming" and "Candles" or songs like those, he probably wouldn't have taken off the way he did.

Agreed, not that I want Kurt to give up the songs he loves, but he really did well with 4 Minutes, and Beatle covers. It is because they do have him primarily sing Broadway that he doesn't sell as much, if he did more pop he would sell just like everyone else. I'm not talking ballads, which I think people are pretty bought out on, but something with energy, that could be fun. Not that I am bothering to take the time to go look, but from the general tone of things, I don't think WSS songs did all that great, no matter who sang them.

If he sang more, than they wouldn't just trot him out for his upper register, he could show all of his range. Unlike everyone else on the show, he can bring something different to each song he sings, whether it be the key it is sang in, or his emotion within the song. It wouldn't be, gosh, you-know-who just sang their 50th song to Kurt's 5th, tiresome things like that.

Kurt Hummel Snark & Bark Thread--Part 5 Empty Re: Kurt Hummel Snark & Bark Thread--Part 5

I absolutely agree that Chris pulls Darren through the scenes. I still contend that part of the reason TD was a hit, besides being a number one at the time and the arrangment, was because of Chris and his acting. That's why I bought it. Kurt was so happy and I wanted that for him. I thought Darren was ok in NBK and liked Blaine when he was introduced, but I noticed his weird delivery almost immediately. The stairwell scene sticks out when he tells Karofsky he isn't alone. He also has a weird pause when he is using Kurt's name at the end of a sentence. It has happened a few times. "That's cheating..........Kurt. Strange. Also in the BB hallway scene with the Margaret Thatcher dog. Chris seems to be giving the cues and Darren is missing them. I agree, JR, that Darren is always thinking about acting techniques whereas Chris does what feels natural to the character. I think I have determined that Darren has better timing as a comedian as opposed to dramatic/non-comedic acting. His voice is good, but definitely not Broadway, and seemed stronger when he was with the Warblers because he was always layered with other singers.

Now for everyone else:

Cory is a very good actor and I don't mind his voice, although every song he sang in the back half of season 3 was wrong for his voice.
Lea is a little show facey for me, but it is perfect for Rachel. Her voice is pretty fantastic, but they also shove her into songs she doesn't fit. Also, her actual performances do nothing for me because they all look the same. Squichy and crying.
Naya is good but not as good as I thought she was in season 2. She was overused in season 3, showing her acting cracks. She isn't always in character and sometimes doesn;t connect. I also am never impressed with her solo performances. Specifically Songbird. Granted, we were coming off the week that had AIWNSG, but it was like she as trying to connect and it was not there. Her hand movements, everything, was just a miss. I also think her disco number this year was a miss as well as La Isla Bonita.
Amber is a phenomenal voice and a hit or miss actress. I thought she was good earlier in the season, but the disco episode was one of her worst. When she gave her speech to Shue, it was so, so bad.
Heather is a mediocre actor best used in small doses and a poor singer. Every song she sings is autotuned beyond recognition. Don't get me started on her competition solos. Evil or Very Mad
Jenna has a good voice but is a poor actress. She can be funny, so they should stick to that. I don't know if I laughed harder in the second season than when her and Chris did Phantom. So funny and criminally underrated.
Harry is actually a pretty decent actor, but his voice is nothing special. He is strongest telling stories through dance.
Kevin is a passable actor (again better at comedy), but I like his voice, probably not as much as others, but he is good. I will say, I think sometimes my opinion is colored because I loathe Artie. For the record, this was long before he was an ass to Kurt.
Chord is a better actor than I originally gave him credit for and he has grown oon me and I think, is one of the few non-originals that fit in the choir room. I am not a fan of his voice though.
Diana is very pretty. I think her acting is mediocre and her voice is thin. Her crying/yelling acting always pull me out of the scene.
Mark has a better voice than he is actor but he also suffers from poor song choice. I will say that he killed it at the end of last season. His whole story arc was compelling.
Vanessa is a good actress. A little OTT, but it works for Sugar. I like her. Stick with comedy though.
Damian was not a good actor and while he has a good voice, I was always bored to tears by his performances. AIWNSG was 5 minutes and feels like 1, even now. Damian feel like 20.
Samuel is strange because I think I could like him. I think he could be different and didn;t do anything appalling. I also liked that he was nice to Kurt in OMW. That goes a long way with me.
Alex is also a very mediocre actor. He has a good voice and I thought Boogie Shoes was great. I thought his Nationals performance were not though. He was completely disconnected from the songs. There is nothing in his eyes.
Lindsay was the best of that batch, but we already have a Rachel that gets too much screen time.

Now for Chris. Glee is about him and maybe that's why he is the most believable. We can buy him as an underdog and he is happy for small victories (see being a finalist) whereas people who win all the time (ie Rachel) aren't happy if they aren't winning exactly how they think they should. I love his voice in all the registers and will never apologize for it. One of my faves from last year was "I have Nothing." He just gets it. He gets the emotion. AIWNSG is still the hands down best performance on the show followed by RT. He nails his solo performances. Even something like ITGS had the humor and the physical, but watch his face in the second part when he starts the "ITGS..." part. His face acts so much with minor adjustments. OMG, I just reminded myself why I think he needs to be in everything. I really thin k he is amazing.

We've dealt w/ her in GF, and elsewhere for more than a year (maybe 1.5) and she sounds hte same and use the same faulty logic. the only difference is as time goes on she sounds more and more nasty.

the reason many of us recommend you not to respond to her is because she wants to us to respond, to argue w/ her. It makes her feel needed and important. It's like little kids who act badly to get attention. If we give her attention, it will only get her more excited. There's absolutely no way any of us can "win" any argument w/ her, because her mind is set and she uses faulty logic. I think ultimately she just want people to pay attention to her.

So fans that think they are entitled are still whinging that Chris didn't stop after filming to sign autographs but Darren did.

I just found out that a couple of fans found out from some of the crew that day that Chris is tired and sick, he has the flu.

And these whinging fans are also saying that he must be a diva because he has a lot of security around him.

Several of Chris's fans are having a go at them so that makes me happy.

It is sad to know that Chris is sick and still has to work and he is probably working on his other projects. Kurt Hummel Snark & Bark Thread--Part 5 1371890812

Such fans should be tarred and feather, whip lashed , told to shut the fuck up and then hit by a two by four until they apologize for their whining.

Other then that, I'm cool with them.

also, it's a complete waste of time. she is bat-shit crazy, and you can't reason with crazy.

so in the future, just report her. this is a chris colfer fan site, and aside from constrictive criticism which we all may have for different topics relating him and his work, there is no chris bashing allowed, from anyone. when a first post someone makes and such is very negative, as in they registered just to say "i hated that", "he is a no talented sob" and such - it's a troll and report right away. they may try to play nice at times, but sooner or later they will start bashing and that is the end.

It's really too bad that people have to be like that to complain because Chris didn't stop. Chris is not a diva. I've seen him with fans, and he was very generous with his time, and took time to acknowledge them as he signed autographs. A couple of our members met him at his book signings, and we've read dozens of reports, and everyone talked about how great he was.

Chris is entitled to a bad day. He isn't required to stop and sign autographs. Being sick, or having another engagement that makes him unable to stop to meet fans doesn't make him a diva. Things just happen.

Post  arina 8/15/2012, 7:32 am

Everytime when there is filming in New York or anywhere outside (like the filming of the car scene) people are always complaining about Chris because he is not as accessible as Darren or Cory. Some people can't understand that Chris and Darren are two different people with totally different personalities. Yeah, I understand it's nice for fans that Darren spends so much time with them, sometimes I wonder if he manages to do something else than just talking and posing with fans but that does not mean that if someone doesn't do that (so often) it makes him a bad person. Some fans complained that there were just two of them in the morning and even if chris was not filming he was ignoring them. It has never occured to them he can be sick, he maybe does'nt want to be distracted from the work, he can recite the script in his head or be thinking about other important things ... and even if he just didn't have a mood to meet fangirls, I wouldn't blame him.

Chris loves his fans, it is very obvious from all the reports from the book tour, from his interaction with them via twitter, from the interviews where he has talked about not wanting to disappoint them several times etc.

Shit just got real for GA: IMDb (EDIT: sorry, most of the thread got deleted now)

Someone is threatening to give her personal information to the Irish police, and they've tweeted her foul actions to Chris' publicist. I don't really condone to this form of pressure, but I also have to admit that GA was asking for it, and she needs to be stopped. Do not do unto others...etc.

Yesterday GA/Kerrie reluctantly deleted most of her accounts (and it's amazing how many she had), but in the meantime she was already setting up new ones, and has tweeted hate to Chris on a new twitter account (which got deleted again), while at the same time seemingly agreeing to stop all Chris hate/stalking activity. So this attempt to shut her down seems fruitless, although it got rid of a lot of hateful accounts everywhere on the internet.

I'm afraid she will not stop bashing Chris unless she gets stopped by force or does something to herself. It's sad and scary. Evil or Very Mad

I was going to respond to this, but then @Buenos said it all:

Lea is the only one of the Glee cast who can sell Broadway tunes very well, the rest only sells well when doing pop songs. Glee wants certain actors to be more popular, probably because these actors are the ones with the (Fox) record deals, so they give them the songs that are expected to sell well.
If Chris was given the right songs (read: pop songs), the right singing partners (like Amber and Naya teaming up in the Troubletones, or a hot guest star like Matt Bomer or Ricky Martin), and the right exposure (OMG: Blaine's so megasexyfoxyIdon'tknow hot in this re-enacted Whitney video), he would sell just as well. dryy

I'm intrigued about the EU legislations weird stance on social media and peer networks at the current moment and it's right to prosecute people who mistreat it for personal angsts against someone.

Don't get me wrong I also love freedom of speech but there is a limit to that as well which GA has, frankly said, crossed many, many times and not just towards Chris but innocent, often young kids in these blogs. They can arrest people for defaming in the social medias in Ireland or GB where ever in EU she lives and maybe she has started to realise that, especially after that big news about the guy harrasing Tom Daley via Twitter and that guy being arrested because of internet hate.

Just because someone you spread shit about lives on the other side of the world doesn't stop these eager EU government officials, some of which HATE all social media sites from at least arresting and messing with her life even if she would not be convicted. I'm right now having a very satified and sadistic Mr. Burns moment here if she will be forced to realise that she really now has to stop. I love that this whole interwebby thing not Wild West where you can just roam around and kick people.

Buuuut, on the other hand the world is full of mentally unstable people which will never understand what's best for them, so we'll see...

Post  Ranwing 8/15/2012, 11:53 am

I've read some of her posts with her various handles (though I didn't make the connection that they were all from the same person). She is very seriously unbalanced and this negative view she's taken of someone that she's never actually met and the amount of effort she spends in trying to damage his reputation is mindboggling. This is the reason that Chris has to have security.

I wish that some of the self-entitled fans who complain that he didn't stick around after a night shoot (after filming during the day and per reports not feeling well) would remember that he is not there to satisfy their cravings to meet a celebery. He's there at work. If he can take a few minutes to meet some fans, that's great. But that's not his priority. And no one should be made to feel obligated that they must immediately respond to the demands of a fan like a performing monkey when they are not in a meet and greet type of setting.

Living and working in NY, I see a lot of celeberties. We have a lot of shows and movies filmed her and for the most part, actors do try to be nice to the public who show up to watch them film. They do not have do and when they are busy or not feeling well, they shouldn't be made to feel obligated to do so. This isn't a convention or one of Chris's meet and greets (where he is always reported to being very responsive to his fans). He's been working all day and at the end of a night shoot, he's entitled to want to shut himself in his trailer and relax for a few minutes without petty "fans" badmouthing him.

That does make me angry, as if you are no longer human because of the job you do. I know as a nurse people assume we never get tired, should always be up,up,up and read their minds. I do get tired, and sometimes, while always professional, I don't feel like chatting endlessly. I don't even talk to my neighbors, I am so tired of talking at work, and just plain tired.

Chris just came off a 2 week booktour, has been working on his other books, and probably his second movie, and now is hard at work at Glee. Darren had the summer off, playing, except for one apparent weekend with Starkids, he should be full of energy. Plus he is an extrovert, whereas Chris is an introvert. One seeks attention, the other accepts it.

Television is long hours, unlike big movies, where they seem to have a lot of time to rehearse and film. Television you have to get it, because they are going to film it from several different angles to begin with, and if you muck it up you have just that much more to do.

Kurt Hummel Snark & Bark Thread--Part 5 Empty Re: Kurt Hummel Snark & Bark Thread--Part 5

Jellyrolls wrote:It's really too bad that people have to be like that to complain because Chris didn't stop.

You are 100% correct.

I don't think she can be arrested just for spreading hate speech online. I mean she didn't call for violent action against Chris (I assume, I didn't read her stuff) or stating clearly that she would do something violent to him (again I assume), so speech alone should not be the source for legal intervention. that said, she should be sent to a mental hospital. she is not normal. no normal people, even haters, go that far. Chris is not a political figure that stands to change a country legally in some way or start a war or something. Normal hates may say something nasty about him and then move on. GA on the other hand is spending every second of her life obsessed w/ him. Whether it's love or hate or both it's the obsession that goes way too far.

now for the other entitled fans, they should instead thank Chris for not giving them the flu germs!

Kurt Hummel Snark & Bark Thread--Part 5 Empty GA aftermath

Post  fantastica 8/15/2012, 2:12 pm

^ I responded to your same post in another thread. However I am sad to see that Chris' threads have turned into GA threads. No, not your fault, but hers. I am angry at her.

I hope she gets hit by a bus tomorrow (and please anybody don't give me a lesson on why I shouldn't say this. I just need to rant). Yes bad people can bring out the worst in me.

Exactly. If Chris had stayed and take pics with fans GA probably would have accused him of not being nice to his fans for giving them the flu. Rolling Eyes

Chris had been working all weekend, after working hard for weeks before, it was 3AM, he had the flu and he just finished filming an emotional scene. Give the guy a break. Evil or Very Mad
And when you think of some fan encounters he had (keeping him 'hostage' in an elevator, crowding him in a cinema till he got bruises, pulling his clothes while filming in New York last year, hysterical girls crying), and him needing a body guard for other reasons..... jeez: he's already doing much more than can possibly be expected of him.
